Switching from Single Fan to Dual Fan - Programming needed

Freel2,

I am looking for your collective wisdom.

I switched from the Single Fan (Because it stopped working)

To the dual Fan (Because its hot where I live)

I can't prove it but subjectively at idle the AC performance is improved


The only issue seems to be that the signal that controls the Fan is slightly different for the Single Fan and the Dual Fan.

The side effect of this is that the Fan now runs all of the time.

Does anyone know what I need to do to change the settings?

I would have thought if it’s above a certain temperature and the A/C is on then the fan will run regardless (unless of course there is air through put from higher speed driving) the condenser NEEDS the throughput to work properly.

Does the fan work when the AC is OFF and at first start up? Regards

That is a fair point.

To clarify.

If I turn off the A/C the Fan still runs even if the engine is cold.

Paul, I just tried mine and with the car slightly warm (drove 3 miles around 5 hours ago) and with the A/C switched off, the fan started spinning immediately but at a low speed. I switched the A/C back on and the fan started spinning at high speed after about 10 seconds. I'll try again tomorrow morning after the car has cooled overnight. I'm in Houston so the overnight is high 70s so it won't be "cold" cold.

Just guessing here, but there is an option on the CCF (ENGINE_COOLING_FAN_PERFORMANCE), that may need to be reprogrammed...
For example, I have a dual fan setup - but in the meantime a diesel engine - and I have the value "1" (High performance fan) set there.
See what value you have there...

I checked the car this morning when cold (sat overnight) and with the A/C off, the fan does run at a low speed when the car is first started. I let the car go from fast idle to normal idle and nothing changed. When I switched on the A/C I heard the compressor clutch engage immediately and then after about 15 seconds the fast went to a higher speed. Hope this helps.

I'm going to try and get the VCX Nano working. I hate having to use a dealer or independent to make changes to the CCF.

TX,

I agree I need to get the Nano as well.

I just checked my fan and it turned on as soon as I started the engine.

My LR2 was parked outside and the temperature last night was about 52F.

It does seem to be running on the slow speed.

I tried turning on the AC to get the fan to go to high speed but it was only 65F outside and it got really cold really fast.

I check it again when its hot.

One last comment.

I can't believe how hard is is to change the radiator fan on my Land Rover.

One of these days I will need to replace the Fan on my S80 (same engine and same fan as my LR2) and it looks like the fan will lift straight out.

If that is the case then the Land Rover Engineers worked at it to make it this hard.

In case you don't know the LR2 is based on the Volvo S80 Platform (EUCD or P3 if you prefer)
