Front wheel brows 0 have a purpose?

Hi all

Someone raised the issue of front brows/spats recently.

Do they serve any real function? The screws keep the internal and external mudguards together, but the spats seem to be cosmetic. Just something to get ripped off when offroad.

Cheers guys.

Haha I think there are more questions than answers.
Probably more/deeper water off road than on. Lower speeds I guess.

Off they come!

Cheers. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Big puddles at normal road speeds (20-40mm deep/30+ mph) will cause water to be thrown forward and up (from the wheel contact patch) which then gets driven into by the car getting the windscreen covered, these deflectors (oddly enough) deflect the water from the wheel. Regards

David

Well, now that's funny the spats coming up...... Whilst sitting in dealership showroom Thursday a £81500k RR was being shown to a customer and I could see the near side spat was cracked and hanging down Shocked

I think these do prevent a lot of water spary. I had a Disco 2 before the Freelander and if you hit puddles on the road you could get a tidal wave thrown up over the bonet and windscreen. The Freelander suffers from this much less Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

With the 90/110, when water splashed up over the windscreen, it was then with you for the rest of the day! It poured off the screen onto the bonnet, but forward motion kept it up at the windscreen end of the bonnet...until you slowed enough for it to run down to the front edge of the bonnet, where it blew back up onto the windscreen! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I put spats on my FL2 and they do stop some of the water from getting on to the screen. But they aren’t compatible with the sump protector so they came back off.

I had to check that I had spats on my Freelander as water flies onto my windscreen when going through a sizable puddle.
So to me they are useless.
My previous Freelander didn’t have them and I didn’t get this issue... but then again, it was in Oz!
