just had a service done at my independent Land Rover garage, they point out all things requiring attention.

One of the things mentioned is both front discs badly corroded on inside face. I find this a bit odd, with past cars my discs have lasted years, but could that be due to doing more miles back then.

Do the discs rot with lack of use?? I say that as the discs were fitted by the same garage 27 months ago, I have done only 7,300 miles on them.

The make they fitted are Delphi, is that a crap make? 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

Do a full break service. In particular check the sliders.

Bought my FL2 with about 17000 miles on the clock and it had done 75500 when I had the discs and pads changed in May 2018. It probably depends on the use the car is put through and your style of driving. I certainly aren’t slow but I prefer to read the road and traffic ahead and brake earlier and smoothly. Maybe this allows heat to soak through the discs and dries them out reducing corrosion as opposed to the on or off style of braking that others seem to have.
I often think of brakes as a way of wasting money twice. You’ve used fuel to gain speed that you’ve now got to lose and you’re going to have to pay to lose it.

When I bought my Freelander 2 a couple of years ago it had 38000 miles on the clock. It came with all the receipts of work that had been done on the car (its a 2007)

It had just had new discs & pads fitted a couple of months before I bought it so I guess they lasted about 35000 miles.

I also have a VW Transporter which is a 2004, I have owned it since it was 2 years old, now on 162000 miles, just had the rear discs changed a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned to the garage about the front ones & according to them they are still ok so 162000 is amazing.

The van is used just about every day whereas the Freelander only on a weekend but not always. It is kept in the garage so I suppose that helps to keep the wet off the discs.

Seems to me its better if the vehicle is used more to keep everything moving & dry, especially in the Winter.

Yes blueboy, I reckon that's the case, possibly combined with my car being permanently garaged when not in use, condensation etc etc.

Did you have a look at the alleged corrosion? The time frame seems pretty short for bad corrosion, unless your garage is on a tidal flat.

Agree- 730O miles is not much to trash a set of disks.

Im still on the original front disks & pads: 64 plate, 38K miles inc towing heavy trailer loads.

But recently replaced the rear brakes as a pad had lost all its friction material due to rust and ruined a disk. Jules

It’s all down to the quality of steel they use today to produce discs, but 7,300 miles I would with out fail be onto Delphi.

I thought Delphi discs came with a 3yr, 30,000 mileage warranty? I'd be onto them asap & get that checked out.

Interesting, I will take this up with my garage for starters, any one up North will know the independent 4x4 Bowburn (Durham) garage is a fine place, I have no doubt if they said they changed the discs 27 months back that they did. however if they didn't. . . . . .
