Renovation of faded external plastic trim

I've seen all sorts of remedies recommended on Utube, including the use of a heat gun. Has anyone direct experience of the best (semi permanent) method?

Don't laugh.….baby lotion. Common sense isn't very common.

I use Meguiars Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer which works very well. I don't use it much so it must last long!

I've also used engine oil in the past (before I could afford on-the-shelf-products!) which was recommended to me years ago by a car detailer - a very small amount goes a long way.

Boiled linseed oil, as used for sealing terracotta floor tiles, etc. Very effective, and less messy than engine oil.

Oil......baby oil, olive oil, rape seed oil......you get the picture.....

On plain plastic trim any clean non smelly thin oil will make it come back to colour and sheen, my pick is baby oil on a rag.

Or pay £5>£20 for a “named” potion which will have the same finish. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Another vote for WD40, I use it, as recommended by the supplier, on the plastic bits of my conservatory. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I have just bought some of this – Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer 15 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008L17JF4/ref...eDbJR0KCT6

I’ll let you know how it goes when I receive it if you like.

I got fed up with back to black, just seem to end up with more of it on my hands and rags! Neutral

Oh yes, in other news we’re just spent 6k on bringing ours back from a garage, it passed it’s MOT before we had any work done, still feeling sick about it...

Curious how that C4 does, would go well on interior as well I'd think.

I went with the Boiled Linseed back a few months ago - she's covered in mud now with the roads being torn up around here, so I'm interested to see what the trim looks like after a nasty winter and I get around to actually cleaning her off so she's not a nice shade of 'road work muck'.
