The garage did an oil/filter change only without removing the Haldex or cleaning the pump screen so all the new oil did was flush out more crud and block the filter screen.

You can see crud and emulsified oil in the pump housing and in the main bearing

Ooops'!

I forgot to start with this:

Before you can get to cleaning the Haldex, you have to remove it from the car (see my previous written description).

Once removed, this is what you will be confronted with

To get at the pump (if that is all you want to clean, you must still take off the prop shaft and the large flange (the rusty looking thing on the left of the picture). You can use a bearing puller if its on the car or if it has been removed, I just used a drift to knock the shaft out of the back with a few gentle taps.





Next I removed the splined shaft holding the clutch pack by simply tapping it out with a rubber mallet (its only a press fit onto the main bearing).




Now you can start cleaning Smile

I started with the clutch pack.

You can see the crud on the top plates




To take apart the clutch pack, you need a pair of strong, almost needle nosed pliers.

There are 3 tangs in the clutch housing assembly which are bent over to keep the clutch pack in place.




Bend these until they are vertical and the clutch pack can easily be removed




The clutch pack is made up of 2 x thick end plates, 10 x clutch friction plates and 9 x metal plates.

These should be separated, degreased and cleaned.

There are also 2 x roller bearings.

One on the end of the clutch pack assembly, the other on the piston end (main housing).








These can be removed using a small flat bladed screwdriver




They simply clip together and should be split apart into 3 and cleaned and degreased.

Once cleaned, everything can be dried.

You should have a few parts now Very Happy

The next thing I did was to remove the 2 x socket head bolts holding on the ECU and then removed the ECU.

You will be left with the solenoid still in the Haldex housing.

I used a set of grips to gently pull it out (its only pressed in and held by o-rings.

It was also covered in crud and emulsified oil

If you haven't already done so, remove the filter element.

Remove the 2 x cap head screws and remove the element cap.





There will be another cap below held in by an o-ring.

I simply used a screw into the cap and some grips to pull it out






The new filter element comes with a cap and new screws so you can throw the old lot away.

You should also remove the piston at this point




All you need is a blade or a small flat bladed screwdriver to gently prise it out.

Careful, it has o-rings so don't split them.

Clean the piston assembly and spring.

Mine had a lot of crud inside
















Clean the entire Haldex assembly in degreaser - I use the citrus stuff from Machine Mart and it worked ok.

Make sure you use a brush, and keep pouring it into all of the galleries and flushing it through.

I used a hose to flush out with clean water - lots of crap came out.

Then I used compressed air to dry it out.

It will take a long time to dry. Keep rotating and shaking the housing until you get out all of the free water.

I then use a low heat setting on a heat gun (a hair dryer will do) making sure I point it into all of the galleries.

Once dry - lubricate the bearings and seals liberally to get it ready for reassembly (new Haldex oil is best).
