Missing spare wheel, UK issue! My car has been reliable but I have the 2 litre petrol engine! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Have a look at the wheel arches the rubber strips are prone to deforming and maybe missing check there is no corrosion around there. |

Get an auto if towing, off roading or for city traffic. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

One i wished I'd done would have been whipping the engine cover off - looking for build up of crabon/muck around each injector sugesting leaking. Could happen to any diesel, so not Freelander2 specific, but sure stuck in my mind.

Cambelt change service has been moved to 7 years from 10 for some versions. It’s not something that you want to miss as having a cam belt break is another world of pain in the wallet. |

One thing I saw when buying mine a few weeks back: in front of the rear wheels, up in the sill area is a plastic (I think) plug about 8cm square - if this area is full of dirt / mud, check carefully for corrosion as the wet mud holds moisture close to the metal. Current: FL2 TD4 2008 HSE
