Malaysia 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Home made / poor man's "Touch Pro Duo"

If the RR and now the Evoque can have the Touch Pro Duo...why can't the Freely. Here is the challenge of fitting a "floating" tablet which is very much in vogue at the moment. I got the excellent Teclast M89 tablet with an 8 inch screen (2048 x 1536) and very good specifications (3GB RAM, etc.) - although like many Android tablets it's got bugs here and there.

The display in the cubby hole was fitted earlier - a Xiaomi with very good performance and value for money.

I then made a bracket out of an aluminium plate, which is shaped so that part of it slots under the front centre speaker panel (some filing is required).

Two ribs were fashioned so that the plate doesn't wobble when driving. 3M permanent tape holds the tablet securely while the USB cable is wired from the floor and up beside the air conditioning vents. Black colour cardboard was needed to hide the silver rear side of the tablet so as not to attract attention.

The result is a clean, upright tablet that can display maps whilst the now seconday screen displays Torque Pro readings.

Anyone had any luck trying to install this? I just got my 2013 FL2 last week, and as much as I love it I miss the Android Auto/Carplay experience and can't seem to find much about it online. I love the design of this popping out on the top and wouldn't mess with the radio, but i'm keen to learn more about any struggles with the connections.

An option for magnetic mount, I wanted the screen off centre closer to the driver, I have a 7 inch screen, but would go up a size in magnets for an 8 inch screen..

I'm using a 32 x 8mm 23kg north south pair, about 3mm apart in situ. So unless you can find a slightly larger pair, you will probably need a 42 x 9mm at 32kg & match it with the correct polarity 32 x 8mm magnet.

Be extremely careful with these magnets keeping your fingers out the way, they have a very forceful bite when they stick to each other or steel surface, bloody dangerous things! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

This type of magnet can be found, amongst other appliances, as a microwave oven, Magnetron.
