Oil sump cover pan

Hi all
Just done my service, surprised to find the sump cover quite badly corroded, cleaned up and painted but will look for a new one for the next service. Disappointing the last service place didn’t mention it, it’s not happened over night and I could have done something or had a new one ready to fit this time.
Just wondering if I’m missing a water deflector or shield as not sure how why water would get there and cause this?
The under engine cover was/ is all fitted correctly.

What's the rest of the underside like? Has it been dunked in the sea ? Jules
