Took my wife to collect her new 1 litre 3 cylinder petrol turbo auto Suzuki Swift. I can't believe how much technology they seem to pack into cars these days, it makes the FL2 seem quite dated. On the way home she approached a bend in the road at about 40mph and there was a car parked in a layby on the outside of the bend and as she approached it a message came up "crash imminent " and with an audible warning and apparently would have started applying the brakes if she hadn't been turning the wheel at the time. You can also get engine torque and power readouts or g force etc adaptive cruise control, lane change assist etc All this from a small city car. I asked for a Suzuki Vitara brochure while is in there as it looks to me a possible FL2 replacement next year. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Fitted a new throttle body last Friday. This due to having an EML and error code P02E5 a couple weeks ago. It certainly has made a difference and shutdown is immediate rather than a shudder. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Drove down M5 on way to Cornwall - all fine with good flow of traffic UNTIL some knob towing a caravan that was too big for their car lost it coming down the hill between junction 19 and 20. Massive tailback (not helped as motorway reduces from 4 lanes to 3 lanes) and a 75 minute slow crawl. Once past the accident a lovely run all the way through to my daughter's house near St Austell. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Drove from Mansfield down to my brothers near Worcester for a weekend of garden landscaping at his new house. Even managed to fit a turf lifter in the back without moving the seats or dog guard (couldn't have done that in the Ewok!)

the best part was the MPG, average 39.8 and a theoretical overall range of 598 miles when combining the odometer with the trip computer.

I live just off Jn20 M5, and the M5 traffic during the summer is a pain which gets worse as the years go by. In fact I have a Garmin Sat Nav with Live Traffic (via my phone) as well as the FL2s own Sat Nav with Broadcast Traffic on in my car, so that I am always warned to dodge around the motorway.

Not sure that I should share this, but I travelled the same direction this lunchtime but managed to cover the 44 miles from Monmouth to M5 Jn20 in 70 mins. I think it was about the same time as the traffic queues were bad and my Sat Nav was showing an accident on the downslope of the hill prior to Jn20.

The trick is to use the M49 to travel past the M5 roadworks (Jn17 to Jn18), this joins the inner (extra) lane of the M5 to cross the Avonmouth Bridge (Jn18-Jn19) and then off at Portishead and join the B3124 back road into Clevedon (Jn20), thus avoiding the narrowing of the M5 (4 lanes into 3) at the top of the hill.

Please don't all use this route at once as it will jam up in the villages and impede my progress home.

PS A tip if you do go south on the M5 after Jn19. You need to get into the inner lane well before the top of the hill to avoid the jam as the 2 outer lanes fight over road position, instead of merging like sensible drivers.

Used the FL2 to carry chainsaws down to the bottom field , to do a bit of thinning . The Terrain Response and HDC are up to the job , but at times like this I wish I still had a Defender to use as a mini tractor to drag things . Still not bad for a 10 year old motor . It might not look like it from the photo , but parallel to the tree line is one of the steepest roads used cycling races , the laughingly titled “ cote du Shibden” aka the “ Shibden Wall”
