New member. Freelander 2 2010.

Hello,

Just bought a Freelander 2. I have a question. Should the sat nav/display panel be usable without the engine running?

I put the key in but the sat nav panel stays blank. I turn on the engine, the sat panel/display panel comes and I can set a destination etc. Seems odd as I'd have thougt I should be able to set the destination before starting the engine.

if you put the key in the slot and press and hold the start button without touching either clutch (manual) or brake (auto) pedals then the ignition is switched on but not the engine started.

you can then access the sat nav and radio etc as normal. You can either single press the stop button to turn off the ignition, remove the key etc or you can put your foot on the relevant pedal, press start again and start the engine up.

hope that helps

Thanks. I have a second question.

Thanks, RogB. Just tried it and it works.

I have a follow up question. When I press the start button there is a loud tone ( a kind of lound beep/tone) that lasts a few seconds. Is this normal?

It will beep for various reasons.

If no warning lights are on check the external temperature as it will give a ice warning if this is below 4C MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

Will try some of the suggestions

Thanks for the replies.

Don't think it is the outside temperature as pretty sure it was above 4c when I tried it (there had been a frost overnight).

Think I had the seat belt on when I started the car but try again to be sure.

Low fuel, low washer fluid etc all give a tone on startup. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…
