Front side lights playing up.

Hi all.
Anyone had this problem or have any ideas.
My front n/s left side light has stopped working, I have several perfectly good bulbs and power in the light socket, but it wont light any of the bulbs.

I have taken the headlight unit out and wired it to a battery on the multi plug terminals, the side light works perfect and lights all the spare bulbs I have, soon as I put it back on the car, it wont work again even tho it has power in the bulb holder.

I have tried led and normal bulbs, it has a good earth so I cant see any reason for it to not work on the car when it does in the shed wired to a battery.

Any ides ??

I had a similar issue with my L322 rear lamps, one of the bulbs kept failing but was fine when inspected, with the lamp hanging out and connected it was fine, traced it to a broken cable within the insulation, when the lamp was installed it put the loom at the correct angle for the wire break to not work. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

I had a stop/tail bulb blow, replace with a Lucas and had no joy, turns out the bulb was wired so that both filaments came on with the tail function which was confusing the CJB Freelander 2's version of a fusebox. Anyway long story short, I replaced the bulb after an auto electrician discovered it was faulty but still had the problem of no stop/tail! this was rectified by resetting the CJB, video on how to by powerful UK (not sure how to post link) on youtube it's actually how to reset after changing headlamp type.
Basically insert key, press ignition without foot on brake until dash lights up turn ignition back off then start as usual!

worked for me, CJB reset and all good since, may be worth trying.

I will try these tomorrow, bit of an update here with this light.
I have 12.8 volts at the battery but only 11.4 at the bulb holder.

Dan.taylor. funny you mentioned led. I had a working led bulb in the sidelight until I changed a headlight bulb, bulb is fine but wont light up.

Yep try a reset by taking the battery off for at least half an hour. I did it for a few mins and it didn't work, then had to do something for longer with it disconnected and it fixed it. I believe it was the fet (what the fl2 uses instead of fuses on the lighting circuits) that wouldn't reset. I made sure new bulb worked on a battery before hand and that it was the right way round (leds usually only work one way) then out the bulb in and reconnected the battery. Mine also showed a lowed than battery voltage at the plug which had me stumped for a while. Been fine since.

All done, battery reset didn't do the trick but the CJB reset cured it.
Its foot on the brake, ignition on, ignition off, then start as normal with clutch pressed,
Keep the brake pedal pressed all the time

How does that work on an Auto, just out of interest?

on an automatic you don't have a clutch, so don't depress it Laughing

Start as you would normally start the auto.
