Think we’ve got it down to Ecu as I changed the Ecu and had a second hand one reprogrammed and then the smoke started having this one getting software update next week I’d not another Ecu didn’t realise it started after Ecu was changed so many things gone on forgot when so I sat down and worked out when I’ll keep u updated |

At least you did your own work... I don’t go beyond changing lamp bulbs myself... I understand performance enhancing re- mapping, but in my ignorance an engine replacement is just that- why need re-programming for the same thing?? Hope it goes well for you...I’ll let the guys at the garage know to start there, and I’ll keep you posted on how they get get on as well.. Lexus RX450H - 500 mile a week commuter- I just couldn’t trust in a newer RRS or DS for that…. 2009 Freelander 2 HSE... 155K miles, we’ve done 135k of those, has done brilliantly on the commute and staying firmly put as car two in the household 2002 Jaguar XK8 Coupe... fun, fast, ours for 12 years and owes us nothing - so staying with us too… |

long story short had loads of issues it going in limp mode changed loads of parts and in the end got to the point if u had negative throttle so not accelerating or slowing at about 2,000 revs it would kangaroo a bit so put it in landrover specialist garage who said turno pipe had hole and ecu wasnt talking to turbo so had another ecu fitted lots of went on and took car back in end the problem was the vains in the turbo where damaged from previous engine doing its swirl flaps so had turbo rebuilt cured all problems but this other ecu being fitted started the smoke problem but dont have origonal ecu to fit other wise i think all will be ok. so mate in landrover with there software going to do software up date if not sending ecu back to the people that did it or buy a new one and have programed car owes me thousands now so got to fix and get moneys worth as once we have first start its fine after that may be a remap would sort it to |

Well mine is fixed, finally… but what we found was not quite what the garage or I had expected… I said before I would post on how it's gone, so here we go...

had these new ones tested and all ok only thing i think can try is leave it over night and then take injectors out and look with camera see if a pool of diesel. only think ive learnt now playing about if i start it onthe morning cold start and hold tickover up about 950 ish give it a minute and it clears nd ticks over beautiful so other day i did this left it for five minutes ticking over sweet no smoke but when i went to rev it it coughed and smoked until i had done the usuel rev to clear so makes me think would be leaky injector as should of burnt off after 5 mins and there was no smoke ? so confused |

Deafender, out of interest, did they use Genuine LR parts? I have had problems with non-Genuine parts not being to spec or not working as they should. Exacerbated by the (indy) garage claiming the parts were genuine. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

A mix overall... the exchange engine is definitely not an LR original, though the replacement starter motor, powered steering pump, air con compressor and turbo are all genuine LR. The faulty diesel filter was definitely not, I'm not sure where it came from (it was part of the ancillaries kit supplied from the exchange engine vendor.) - the final replacement was a Mann filter from the garage's favourite motor factor, I saw that arrive while I was there. The injectors were supplied in a kit as well... so I know that they didn't come from LR either. I did ask about the source, but given the red faces all round, there is understandably a bit of reticence around where they did come from, given that they were new yet two failed after installation, AND the vendor took five days just to test and confirm that they were actually faulty, leaving my car off the road for another seven days in all... whoever that was has lost the business from my garage anyway... Hi again johnboyt04... Not sure if this might help you or not, but I forgot to mention earlier that the garage said that while the faulty injectors were clearly the main culprit, air bubbles in the diesel system would also have contributed to the lumpy running when revved up from a previously constant engine speed... that's how we turned to the diesel filter and found that it was faulty even though it was new, and therefore thought we had the issue nailed... maybe worth a try as well...?
