Never been a BMW fan but my daughter has just bought a 18 plate X3 M sport 2l diesel and it is a cracker. Seating position didn't seem low, smooth through the gears, loads of room and more toys than you can shake a stick at. Only downside is the 5 year super tax on cars with an initial cost of £ 40k or more but I guess any new 4x4 LR is in that category too. All in all something to think about when the time comes. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Quite a lot of LRs still under the £40k limit, some deliberately priced just below (eg DS Landmark). Burt something to watch if buying a well-specced model secondhand! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Haven't looked at prices for some time - I seem to remember that the majority were over £40k whereas a lot, as you say, are under even when you spec metallic, spare wheel, auto and se tech . Have prices come down??

Don't hold your breath re oil dilution, but it does seem that they have improved the reliability of the latest models. The DS Landmark is basically a HSE less a few options, deliberately priced within the lower tax brand (just). No-one knows what the new model prices will be. At present LR aren't accepting orders for non-standard build models, apparently. They are trying to clear production before they start selling the new ones. There could be some bargains around soon.

Just been talking to my neighbour with the 6 month old DS that has had the oil dilution problem and engine out for new balance shafts. If the FL2 rear diff bearing is anything to go by I can't see LR fixing these issues in he short term. Unless they produce a reasonably priced petrol version I am out. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

Depends on whether the "facelifted" version is built on the same floorpan that is the root cause of the problem in terms of layout of the SCRF, or whether it migrates to the new PTA layout. I'd like to think that the facelift is more than cosmetic, but who knows?
