Several questions.

Sorry if this is in wrong section.
I'm new to freelanders so curious about several things.

Can you retro fit xenon headlights without to much hastle?
Is there a change over date from 149 to 159 bhp engines?
I really want to fit a hst kit where is the best/cheapest place to get it from?
Any common faults other than diff bearings I need to look out for?
I've read so many reviews about wind noise but I don't seem to see what people are talking about, what's people's thoughts?

Thanks in advance kris

Morning Kris and welcome

Xenon headlights can be retro fitted but may require a change to the wiring loom depending on what year the car is etc and all model years will require a software edit in the CCF (Car configuration files) to enable Xenon

160bhp TD4 were from 2006 - early 2010 (no DPF)(manual or auto)
150bhp TD4 were from late 2010 (with DPF)(manual or auto)
190bhp SD4 were from late 2010 to 2015 (with DPF)(auto only)

HST/Sport/Dynamic kits can be bought via the usual ebay, gumtree etc but rarely as a complete kit. Powerfuluk.co.uk do a complete Sport/Dynamic kit or go direct to LR (very expensive)

Common faults - just check check and check again like you would with any car, lots of info on this forum what to look for in particular

Wind noise... lets face it, its not the most aerodynamic of designs and the wing mirrors are huge

hope that helps

Rog

Kris, your profile suggests you have a 2008 SD4? Happy to be corrected, but I thought that engine was introduced in late 2010?

Assuming you have a pre-facelift model using standard H7 bulbs, I would leave well alone. I think most comments on here suggest that the post-facelift xenon upgrade reduced the efficacy.

I find that, correctly set, the H7 headlights are good, but result in me getting flashed by oncoming drivers. I therefore use the internal beam level adjustment to keep them at their lowest, leaving me scope to raise them again at night on remote roads where greater distance is of use to see the deer.

Edit: cross-posted with Rog who confirms the SD4 introduction date. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I'm guessing face-lift comes in from 2010?

Yes, I believe late 2010, so Model Year 2011. Mine is a 59 plate, but MY2010, pre-facelift. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

correct... late 2010 for the major exterior facelift and a few tweaks inside

and then late 2012 for the major interior upgrade with a few tweaks outside (lights)

general opinion is to go for 2013 onwards SD4 Auto but its down to personal preference and budget.

Did LR ever make a 190bhp manual?

I changed my halogen bulbs to Osram Nightbreakers, which is a common cheap and easy upgrade for your headlights. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Don't forget the dreaded 2011 hesitation problem with (some) early facelifts. There is a whole thread on it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Yes, I’ve done that on most cars including the FL2, but having decided to wait for the old bulbs to fail before replacing them with Nightbreakers, I was really surprised just how much longer the standard bulbs lasted in comparison! ...And that is despite having the car set to “Scandinavian” mode with the headlights always on! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Sorry not quite sure why I put sd4 at its just the normal td4.

With regards to xenons then I'll buy some spare normal units and retrofit projectors and hid kits if retro fitting std xenons are no good.
