On a lot of US cars the stop light and the indicator light use the same bulb (lamp).

The US module only has a tail light, stop/turn right light, stop/turn left light, and ground, no fog or reversing light.

I fitted the Land Rover UK unit with 13 pin electrics when I fitted my tow bar. It’s really good as it disables the cars rear fog lamps when caravan is attached reducing glare as well as the rear parking sensors. It did need “switching on” though which a local specialist did for me. |

7 pin ones do that as well. Common sense isn't very common.
