Did you adjust the shoes first before the cable?

I know there is a left and a right hand cable but cannot remember the difference, as you say I would have thought they would be the same length.

Not inside the cabin, but my cables (casing) would not pull out of the wheel back plate without the aid of a home made release tool - a piece of 1/2" copper pipe inserted from the hub side and hit with a hammer to release the retaining barbs. I believe they are supposed to just pull out.

The cables do not just pull out of the backplates/hub, as Richard has already suggested, a piece of tube (12mm id x 15.5mm od from memory), will be required to collapse the retainer. First time I did, I found that was the most difficult part! Luckily I had access to a lathe!

only other thing is if your not replacing them make sure the expanders are free and not seized (the assembly that the cable hooks onto).

Thanks all for your advice, the 1/2 copper tube worked a treat.
