It`s normal when the temp outside is cold for there to be a noticeable drop in MPG. That is what i have found over the last few years anyway with various different diesel vehicles. That 44mpg in the summer months drops to around 35 or so and 70MPG dropped to about 62MPG. A diesel engine is very inefficient when it is cold and it takes a long time to get up to operating temp at this time of year. |

New 2010 FL 2 TD4e manual owner here and shocked by the poor mpg after coming from a 2.5 Navara!

You can't really do a tank to tank test, as 1) it never fully empties, and 2) you can never fully fill it.

I should have though of this before but mine came with 20" Evoque alloys fitted, So this would put speedo out and in turn mpg would be reading wrong due to bigger diameter? anyone know how much out it will be |

You would need to work it out for the tyres that are fitted - the 20 inch alloys presumably have a rubber-band tyre, so the overall circumference (and vehicle height) might not be that far off the original. My FL2 is the same model as yours and it sits around 39mpg on the dash in winter and 40ish in summer. True mpg (calculated over a long-term period) is only 1 or 2 mpg below dash figure. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

As far as I can see, you should be about 7 or 8% out. So to be comparable to my FL2, you should be reading about 34mpg. Since you seem to be way below this, then there is either something wrong with the car, your use is very different, or you have a very different driving style!

Can a new clutch increase fuel consumption ?. Mine seems to be consistently lower MPG than it use to be before new clutch, according to on board computer. The clutch works fine |

Had myTD4 auto a week now and it's showing 27.4, my previous car, a 2l vw sharan was getting about 38. I've put some fuel system cleaner and turbo cleaner in it, i was going to spray some egr cleaner in it but my brother, who is a mechanic, said something along the lines of don't expect me to fix it when it goes bang . Got some other bits and pieces to do but so far loving it |
