Slightly off-topic - but.....

As always it's a compromise and depends on what you use your car for.

Some of the Summer tyres are hopeless (even with 4WD) on wet grass or even tiny amounts of snow.

And none of the tests review "driving on wet grass"!!

For me a good all-season tyre is the minimun for the type of usage I have for my car.

What you need to bear in mind with an AT tyre [well with mine anyway], is that the starting tread depth is deeper.

My Cooper LTZ's started life with 12mm of tread, whilst a road tyre is generally 8mm
So straight off you get 50% extra tread depth on an AT.
I've done over 25k on this set and have still have a tread depth of 7mm left.
So if I were running road tyres, I would've had to change them at least 5k miles ago,
[and that would've been on the legal limit]
But by the same comparison I've got another 25k left,
So that equates to around 30k life difference between a road tyre and a AT tyre ... for me.

btw, I never change tyres at legal requirement, I would normally change between about 4mm to 3mm, dependent on the season....... never lower! FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

I wouldn't be happy going into winter with the 3.5mm I have on my fronts now, but as we moving into spring/summer im in no immediate rush.

I had an idea that these tyres would only last me the year (which will be July) as they are dealer budget ones IMO so I should have another 2-3 months out of them yet.

good point about the extra tread depth on AT tyres, my AT2 started at about 9mm when new IIRC and 50k later still had about 6mm left on them.

If the Grabber AT3's are half as good as my old AT2's which have lasted me 6 years, then I will be very happy with putting my toe in the water with them next time round.

Hi

Looking at replacing my tyres with Goodyear Wangler HP all weather anyone had experiance of these, I am currently on Davanti but worn down to about 3mm and the front tyre outer edges are shot going to get it 4 wheel aligned (hunter 4 wheel alignment) when the new tyres fitted.

I have had these on my car since new. Now at 23000 miles and about 4.5 to 5.0 mm left. Will be replacing all four when they get to 4 mm. No problems whatsoever, have always felt safe and amazing grip in the wet. I don’t do serious off roading so can’t comment on how they perform in that condition. Another plus is no punctures. So, nothing to complain about and will probably stick with the same tyre when I replace them. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto

That makes the assumption that they both wear at the same rate.

I'm certainly not making any assumptions ..... my abbreviated post is referring to my experience.
Net result of my post was that usage on my AT tyres equates to 1mm of tread wear to every 5k miles.
The numbers are there for anyone wanting to do the maths versus their own tread wear experiences.

But of course the variables of vehicle, driving styles & terrain also all need to be taken into account. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Wrote this in March 2018;

August 2016, Bought from Asda, fitted by Halfords; 4 x Conti CrossContact LX-2 235/65R17 108HXL £414.56. These are on deliberately downsized 17" wheels from 19" which were standard on my Sd4 auto HSE. When I made the change and fitted the new tyres, the ride was transformed from hard and uncomfortable to firm, positive, and reassuring.

Total mileage in 22 months; 32,302. Assuming original tread depth of 8mm, the remaining treads are Front 5mm, Rear 6mm. (about to be swapped).

At that rate of wear and expecting to renew when at about 3mm, I reckon they should take me through till winter 2019. or about 50K.

About 40% of that mileage is 3 annual trips across europe on motorways, and twisty-turnys through the Alps and Pyrenees.

I would definitely recommend Contis.

As a PS; Have just exchanged those tyres having completed 39,600 miles with the treads still remaining as; 4,4,3,3,mm listed on the Tyre Safety report by Formula One aotocentres.

There are variations of Scorpion tyres Rog . For what it’s worth he Scorpion ATR is exceptional, it is as quiet as a tyre can be , performs well in mud and snow , and delivers a decent MPG . It also has a very pronounced rim protector bead , which is great if like me your lousy at parking near kerbs 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

these are the ones

https://www.colemans-garage.co.uk/tyres/52...5r19-101-v

its a 101 load rating but as they are for an Ewok, that doesn't really go off road (apart from muddy forestry commission car parks or parking in fields) and as its a 3 door I don't load it up with heavy people or things very often.

You should be aware of the following:

The load capacity of a tyre determines what weight each tyre is able to carry.
It is vital that you check with your vehicle handbook as to what capacity should be put on your car. In some cases your insurance can become void if you select the incorrect tyres.
