First thing is to take it to a reliable indy for a second opinion. Dealers are only interested in recent models, their staff turnover is often high, so there is no expertise in the older cars, and their instinct is to replace not repair. I was nearly caught like this by a certain Kentish dealer with an aging Discovery. Astronomical quote for all sorts of things that weren't actually wrong. If there IS a transmission problem, search on here for Bell Engineering. For a local indy, search the forum diligently - there's a lot of info on here. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Definitely look up Bell Engineering; they offer reconditioned transfer boxes for a reasonable price. I remember reading that they improve on the original design by modifying some part(s) of it. Don't think you can go wrong with those guys.

So what were the intercooler symptoms doesnt add up to me, like a lot of main "stealers" they will take your wallet as often as they can. Go to another independent garage and ask for them to verify the issue, ask for a report in writing from the main dealer that stated the issues and then when you get the proper repair done send a letter of complaint to the dealers asking them to explain their actions as it looks rather dodgy to me and would not look good for them in court! 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

Intercooler rads can leak oil, so is that the problem ? Not the biggest of jobs to fit a rad and members have done them and reported the sequence with pictures (use search button / facility ) but you do have to remove the front lower valance. Go to Bell re the drive problems. Nice area so you can build it into a over-nighter with beers and curry or one big day depending how far you are away. I see you're in Westerham; I'm in SE London but have been using RCV, an LR indie in East Peckham who you may want to contact as they're probably not too far away and I don't know that there are many other Indies in our neck of the woods Their number 01622 873000 www.rcv.co.uk. |
