255/55/19 Tyres ?

Hi are there any guys on here running on 255/55/19 tyres cos I’ve got 235/55/19 at the moment, but want to put on Good Year Duratracs like I have on the Disco Smile
Will the extra size going from 235-255 be a problem ?

Any advice greatfuily received

Cheers

Guessing there will be clearance issues particularly on the front wheels.

Hi Sharky
Don't reckon you'll have any issues.
I'm running 275/45/20 ZTZs with absolutely no issues.
Did run with 285/50/20s but only got rubbing on severe articulation.

I'll do the maths and get back. Thumbs Up FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

how much are the Duratracs in that size Sharky ?

ive got an Evoque running 235/55/19's with currently ok tyres but they are what I view as a budget brand (Compasal Smacher) that were fitted by the dealer. Ive done about 11000 miles on them with minimal wear but the grip on wet roads isn't the most inspiring so they will most likely need changing in the summer.

I paid £128.90 each for two from MYTYRES.co.uk 2 weeks ago but the cheeky gets have just put them up to £198 each Shocked
So the cheapest I can find is £134.90 from tyres direct !
I’ve got them on my D5 exactly the same size, they are a bit noisier on the road but, are the dogs nads in the mud and snow Thumbs Up MY18 D5 HSE LUX 😎

Just done the workings and it looks like touch n go!!

235/55 gives a 129 sidewall x 2 + 490 [19"] = 748 [total wheel/tyre height]
255/55 gives a 140 sidewall x 2 + 490 [19"] = 770

my tyres
275/45 gives a 124 sidewall x 2 + 510 [20"] = 758
285/50 gives a 142 sidewall x 2 + 510 [20"] = 794

Your proposed 255/55 sits in between what I'm currently running and my 285/20s which had some rubbing on articulation.
So as said touch n go, but that's just on height clearances.
You'd also need to take into account width clearance eg the actual width & et of the wheel.
My tyres run on Evoque wheels which have an 8" width & offset of et45
That's versus the et55 of the FL2 wheels [with a width which I'd assume to also be 8" on the 19s].
So assuming both wheels are 8", the Evoque wheels sit 10mm proud of the FL2 wheels.

disclaimer - will not be held responsible for the above, it's only my calculations and views. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Googled them after my last post and didn't realise they were an AT tyre which I don't really need.

im interested in upsizing the tyres though as though just look too skinny as 235/19 so will look at all season/M&S in either 245 or 255 when the time comes.

Anyone run changing tyre and wheel spec from Manufacturer recommended sizes past their motor insurer for a view as to whether that is street legal under Con and Use regs or if a loading is put on the premium if it is legal? I imagine that in the event of an RTA one might get into poops if the modification is picked up by a potential litigant or the fuzz.
Clearly when off roading all the Highways guff does not apply but seems risky business to me.

Looks like it’ll be General Grabber AT 3 as they do them in the 235/55/19. And they have some good reviews Thumbs Up MY18 D5 HSE LUX 😎

yes if I was changing the tyre size from factory spec I would inform my insurers...

re 19 inch wheels / tyres

hi, the 19 inch 235 55 19 is a standard fitment to some freelanders 2

would be interisting to to know other owners thoughts on tyre choice as I want to replace my front tyres pretty soon

I have the very same question. In my research I went to landroverforums.com and discovered many threads on this very situation. A few of the members there seem to be very pleased with their installations.

So,... I 'finally' scheduled a fitment of the 255/55-19 Duratracs and will get back to you.

Edit: Apologies, just read the other's posts. Glad to hear the diameter is ok! Now about this width... Guy Pensa
