I have the very same question. In my research I went to landroverforums.com and discovered many threads on this very situation. A few of the members there seem to be very pleased with their installations.

So,... I 'finally' scheduled a fitment of the 255/55-19 Duratracs and will get back to you.

Edit: Apologies, just read the other's posts. Glad to hear the diameter is ok! Now about this width...

How did you get on with your fit? I have these tyres ready to go on, just think I might need some spacers on the rear to help clear the shock.

In the end, Pirelli Scorpion A/T... a better price than the Duratracs.
And get this: 265/60/18 fit!

Just fitted Hancook Dynapro's 255 x 55 x R19. Did a full clearance check and no problems. On our other Freelander SD4 we have 255 x 60 x R18 for more than a year. Gravel, sand and lots of towing an off-road caravan are no problem.
Both cars have a much improved ride (smoother over small corrugations) than the standard sizes. 2013 SD4 SE (hers)

On the standard wheels I’d love to see the rear strut clearance......only got about 5mm with my 255/55x18 Wink Regards

Anyone run changing tyre and wheel spec from Manufacturer recommended sizes past their motor insurer for a view as to whether that is street legal under Con and Use regs or if a loading is put on the premium if it is legal? I imagine that in the event of an RTA one might get into poops if the modification is picked up by a potential litigant or the fuzz.
Clearly when off roading all the Highways guff does not apply but seems risky business to me.

Our first 08 reg FL2 was an "S" spec with 16" wheels. I can't remember actual the tyre size but when I came to replace them (originals) I ran into a few problems phoning tyre suppliers who said things like "are you sure that's the sort that's on there sir?" One tyre dealer refused to replace them as he said that they were Transit Van tyres and should no have been put on a 4x4. And these were original fitment! Of course the tyre dealer knew better than the development engineers from a multi billion pound/dollar motor company Rolling Eyes

The police are more concerned your tyres are road “worthy” without cracks, tears, bald patches or under/over inflated than being 10/20mm wider.

Also it’s odd that it is perfectly legal to go and fit some part worn tyres with completely unknown history for £10 each which are the correct size but fit a brand new set of Michelin/Pirelli for £450+ etc premium tyres of slightly different size (which varies less than the manufacturers lower tyre options) and everyone and their lap cat shouts foul! Censored

C’est la Vie....... Regards

David

I used to work in the tyre trade and as a general rule if you go wider you have to go lower profile or risk altering the gearing
My FL2 was on 235/55×19 but I found it very flighty on the steering so I just put a set of hifly 255/50x19 to retain the same rolling radius and it has transformed the handling. They cost a mere £190 inc vat from treadsetters in Telford although this is cash and carry. They do a fitting service too £20 for all four.

So started the thread looking at 255/55/19 and ended up with 265/60/18 Question

Changed rims to suit?

Just weighing up costs atm in changing rims to 18" or staying with existing 19's and fitting 255/5519's
Confused

Hi All, not sure we got an answer from the above for my FL2, MY2014, currently with 235/55 R19.
I really don't want to change the wheels bacuase they are perfect and I think look great.
But I really want to fit some 255/55-19 Duratracs, will they fit without issues?
Kev

Have a look for a size comparison here, 255/55/19's will be 20mm taller than 235/55/19 - not a change I'd consider - gearing and speedo would be out by 1-2 KPH depending on speed of travel 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Hi buddy, thanks for the reply.
I was researching last night and found that tyre comparison. Sad
So much conflicting info out there for us 19" wheel owners and I'm struggling to find any great looking tyre options without swapping the wheels.
I read General Grabber did a 235/55 R19 AT3 tyre but I can't find them

Finally had my new Goodyear Wrangler DruaTrac tyres fitted, and of course had to try them. Just need some wet mud now to give them a proper test. Some extra details, MY2015 235/55R19 were clocking +3 MPH according to android auto and a local speed sign. New 255/55 R19 are clocking +1 MPH. Of course the Goodyear Wrangler DruaTrac do make a little more road noise, mainly noticeable at 30-40MPH and very dependant on road surface, at other speeds it's hard to tell the difference for me. Very pleased
