I don't have Nokian Weatherproof tyres on the Land Rover, but my Daughter does on her small car.

The tyres were supplied and fitted just under 3 years ago and have 6mm tread remaining. They are date coded 45/15

The car was MOT'd and passed yesterday but with an advisory on the tyres re cracking/perishing.

I hope Nokian will stand by their product and offer some contribution to replacements?

Just a follow up re the Nokian Weatherproofs …..

MyTyres (the Supplier) initially pushed back because the tyres were more than 2 years old. However Nokian kindly stepped in and we have come to a satisfactory resolution considering the tyres have had 3 years use,

So my conclusion is that the tyres are very secure in all weather conditions, also good on comfort, and noise. However they do seem to wear quicker than normal tyres on the driven wheels, but then good winter grip and greater wear (if used all year round) inevitably go together.

If your mileage is high enough that the tyres are likely to wear out in a couple of years I’d recommend them.

But on a low mileage vehicle perhaps ozone cracking may mean the tyres have to be replaced well before they have worn out?

Having said that Nokian may well have corrected the problem on tyres made more recently than mine (week 45 2015). Time will tell so keep the feedback going. Like Pedro I’ll be keeping a close eye on the replacement tyres.

Just googled the DT code, YL4L, and that seems to be the code for Nokian's factory in Finland, so it's not necessarily a Russian issue?

It appears mine were made in the Leningrad region "60EC, 1816"
I've now had an email from the Nokian agents
stating Nokian have offered me a part refund of approx 60% cost. not to bad after 24 months use.

For me, the procedure was an email to Nokian direct, they asked for photos and dates of tyres and purchase etc, then I was told to contact my nearest! official Nokian dealer, with their help we processed the claim, fairly straight forward except my dealer was in the next county!
all sorted within about ten days.

I do wonder if the exceptionally hot summer had any affect on them. Neutral

Although my Weatherproofs are fairly new, I contacted Nokian Customer Services about the cracking problem. They didnt comment other than to say I was to contact my local dealer if a problem with cracking occurs in the future.

I bought them on-line but from their website I found a dealer not too far away.

I recently fitted 4 new replacement Nokia Weatherproofs on my daughters car.

Two were supplied direct from the Nokian Importer as 50% contribution to the cracking problem described earlier. Two were bought online from MyTyres.

Interestingly, the two supplied direct by the importer were dated week 11 2018. The two supplied by MyTyres were dated week 50 2018.

An example of last in first out? So much for stock control …….

I hope the cracking does not recur within the life of the tyres, especially on the already one year old “new” tyres?

Quick update on the replacement Nokian Weatherproofs.

After exactly two years and 10,000 miles they are all cracking just as before (see earlier posts). So need to be replaced yet again even though they have 5mm tread remaining.

Nokian obviously has issues with their compound design, processing, or quality control!

Needless to say the replacement tyres won’t be Nokian!

After seeing your post I've just been out and checked my Weatherproofs (DOT 1117) - installed new in Oct 2018 (they obviously spent some time storage before I put them on). Have done 10K miles - plenty of tread left.

Luckily, no signs of any cracking. Phew !

Mine were made in Russia. Jules

Glad yours are OK Jules, must be batch to batch variation from process inconsistencies.

Someone has just suggested to me that the cracking is actually a design feature .... extra sipes for improved snow performance Laughing

My Weatherproofs lasted 18mths/14,000miles. No geometry issues. The Michelin Crossclimates that I replaced them with, still have 4mm after 30,000 miles.
