Central locking possibility again!?

Hi we newish members of this site for a little while and found the advice given very helpful and informative. We have had little reason to post that is up to now!

We own a 2009 Freelander 2 and have just started having problems with the central locking. Normally if we press the unlock button on the key fob twice all for doors and the tailgate would unlock along with the fuel filler cap. Yesterday when we pressed this button the doors and filler cap would unlock but not the tailgate. To open the tailgate we have to press the tailgate button on the key fob or press the lock and unlock buttons together in the car. This happens with a loud clunk and the tailgate opens.

Obviously we have a problem but before we start taking everything to do with the tailgate to bits and see if we can find out whats gone wrong we thought we would seek help and advice from this forum.

We have gone through the many posts on problems with the tailgate and it would seem that either the tailgate boot release has failed or possibly the tailgate latch lock catch.

Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

This happened on mine I was looking at replacing the micro switch but tried giving the handle a few good knocks and shutting the tailgate forcefully and it worked again, not had it happen again.

Tailgate micro switch will probably be the fault, not expensive to buy and easy to change. lots on here via search. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thank you for confirming our suspicions. All we need To now give the tailgate a few bangs to see if that helps and if not for it to become warmer enough 🥶to go out and change the switch, and find a good switch in the meantime.

Just a quick update. The sun was out so out I went took about an hour to fit to include a cup of tea. I happy to report that the central locking now unlocks the tailgate and all is back to normal.

Thanks for all your help.
