Hardknott and Wrynose Pass is the best road but exploring all the smaller roads is fun as well.

I once stayed in Rothay Garden hotel, Grasmere, we could use the pool at a place in Langdale the short route via red Bank was impressive on a terrible rainy day. not a well travelled route I doubt but a new view of the lakes for me.

I have no kids so my work colleagues are all off, and as soon as school holidays are over I'm up there from the 8th to recover. A week walking the dog in the hills and a pub meal each night 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

Another vote for Hardknott Pass from me! This was in October and it was very wet! Some of the hairpins were a little slippy going uphill.

It's bad enough on foot First did that in 1969 when I was at Outward Bound School at Eskdale in November - not funny trying to get down there in a blizzard but character forming No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS
