New computor downloads

Telephoned my garage today to check if new downloads available, came in today for my car which I purchased Jan/07, going in tomorrow for downloads, will take about one hour
It is worth checking if you bought your car early this year, just give them your car registration
I will report after work is done

Given all the downloads that LR seem to come up with, they should have fitted all cars with Bluetooth telephone kits as standard. Then they could update themselves when passing dealerships, or maybe even automatically like windows XP updates does.

Or is that me being daft Laughing

Mark,

I think you are spot on.

Given all the technology available today then we should not be having to ask the dealer, we should be able to go into the dealer and get an automatic download. No cost and no fuss ... in the real world ... probably won't happen ....

I am sure it will happen eventually.

Manufacturers must be able to save money. Just look at Microsoft. Most of their downloads are automatic, just think how much call centre support operative time that saves them.

LR could just charge once/year (within service cost) and allow it all to happen automatically.

Come on the techno revolution!!

When sales volume LR will be equal to sales volume Microsoft - the question will be solved. Very Happy

Your car would be updated to the latest software version at the first service and again at subsequent services - most dealers reserve the right to charge you approx £100 + labour to do it outwith the normal service schedule.
D3 and RRS owners know all about the number of ECU upgrades that LR can produce, fortunately a lot of the TDv6 upgrades were done early in the D3's life so RRS didn't need quite so many after it was launched. So far my dealer has carried out 4 electronics upgrades out with services for free and lord knows how many have been done
at services. I have had several gearbox ECU upgrades, engine ECU upgrades galore, Parking Brake ECU changes, Climate Control upgrades, Cruise control upgrades, several air suspension upgrades, Park Distance Control ECU reprogramme , an audio reprogramme and the Fuel Burning Heater that was not installed on the production line was installed by the dealer which doubtless also had another ECU for programming! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen

Sky are able to update (interfere) with your viewing card directly via their downlink.
So it would be very possible to update your car’s software via a GPS / Sat Nav receiver.

I’m sure we’ll see that day in the not too distant future.

Worryingly though, is what else can or would, “Big Brother” do with such technology Shocked “You feel uneasy, as the mad scientist locks the door behind you & dissolves the key in a vat of Acid”

Hi Avtur
Tried to find out as I thought some one would ask, all they knew it was an update package part of which was to stop some faulty messages appearing
Must be a big package as it took over an hour
One point after download, trip is at zero and you need to set clock, mpg etc
I think yours was one of the earlier cars so might be worth checking with your dealer and check there is no charge
Good Luck

Yes I must make the call and see what my dealer will do. How's that for timing I've just been out in the car and suffered another rejected start and full reset of everything......

Mine booked in for software downloads tomorrow, prompted by a no start on Sunday when it took me 15 mins of messing with fob and locking/unlocking to get it started. Phoned dealer - booked in no problem. They told me it was on system to perform downloads next time vehicle was in workshop. All very well, but what p155es me off is that there are obviously errors in the software which are affecting virtually every vehicle sold, it is not just isolated instances. Why haven't LR spent the price of a stamp and informed owners that software updates are available to cure the problems (hopefully)? There is no way in the world that the software has been trialled properly because all the problems are occurring at very low mileages, which the vehicle would cover in 1 to 2 weeks of testing. If you bought a DVD player for £15 and the software was useless and kept crashing the machine or it wouldn't play, you would take it back for a refund. You wouldn't expect the shop to say ' well if you ever bring it in for maintenance we'll try and patch the software'. Why should a car be any different? It should be fit for purpose and if it won't start then it's not fit for purpose.

Aside from the electrical gripes I really like the FL2 - just hope the update cures them.

Im off to the dealer tomorrow as i have a long list of problems that i hope this new download will sort out ,but the dealer does not know what the download is going to do ,they have just been told to update the cars when they come in?

My main problem is the wipers and the non starting issus so just wondered if anyone with the same problems that has had the lastest update is now free from these??

When i told them that on the Freel2 forum there are loads of owners with these issues all they say is "your the very first one in this dealership that has had any problems" they talk to you like your making these thing up ,maybe ill get the service manager to have a look on this site tomorrow to see for himself how many of theses problems are floating around.

Stu
