Another Wishbone Post

Following on from another post of mine on this subject I've decided to finally change the front wishbones due to an MOT advisory on bush wear.

Has anyone attempted this on a FL2? I'm sure there was a post on here a while ago but I've done a search and cannot find it.

There is a good video on U Tube showing removal on a Mondeo Mk4 which has a very similar set up, but was a little worried as the mechanic struggled with removing the old wishbone. Looks like when the car is jacked up and the suspension fully extended a lot of strain is put on the rear bush mounting making it very difficult to remove from the subframe. Only way around it was to jack the front suspension up to take the strain off which could be difficult for the DIYer at home.

Anyone any advice (apart from getting a garage to do it) Confused

Thanks,

This may help a bit:

Screwfix do spring clamps and if fitted and tightened before you remove the lower wishbone may keep a lot of weight off but thats my best guess. I would want a trolley jack and bottle jack to hand for this sort of job plus axle stands.

I’ve never done one on an FL2 but I’ve done many on Mondeos. Many people struggle to get the ball joint out of the hub because there is not enough space to lever the ball joint out as the wishbone hits on the subframe. The way to do it easily on Mondeos (and this may work on FL2’s) is to remove the subframe mounting bolts on the side you are working on. You then have enough room to remove the ball joint and then the wishbone. Hope this helps. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Thanks for the info guys, very helpful. Just need to work out where to do it now. My garage is a bit narrow for jobs like this on the FL2 and I haven't picked the best time of year for doing it outside! Gone:
