EML on error codes

Hi All my dad has a 2009 freelander 2 td4 (2.2d) and on his way home today he has EML come on and called AA out they have attended and pulled a few fault codes out.

What do people think it could be i have done a bit of googling but its all conflicting information

Any help would be great

Thank You

First thing I'd do is check the battery and the earth connection. FL2 are prone to throwing up errors if battery connections corroded. Some people add an extra earth cable for this very reason.

Assuming the car is actually running OK (you didnt say that it wasn't) then I'd then clear all the codes with my Torque Pro / OBD dongle and wait to see what happens next. Jules

car runs spot on no loss in performance, no smoke, feels just like it did before

AA tried to clear with Autocom but codes would not clear.

Ill check battery tomorrow to see if its corroded

I was expecting more than 00 but thats what you need to deal with whatever they mean. I think a list of codes was published once on here. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Hi

Both these codes are associated with the ECM, have any of the other modules in the car been scanned? Eg with a Landy specific code reader as opposed to OBD2? Such as the PCM, BCM modules etc.

One possibilty may be communication between the cluster unit and the ECM over CAN network. Since without one or more EPROMs in the ECM been operational the car would most likely not start I would be looking at other connected modules on the bus which could be causing issues with the ECM. Especially modules which may send data to the ECM to be stored on a temporary basis.
