Engine off, warning lights on!

hello everybody,

a friend of mine had a landrover 2 td4.e which had some strange "typical lr" behavior.
first thing was obviously repaired by changing the lambda sensor.

but the other thing is still apparent: the engine is running, waiting at the traffic lights, and engine suddenly turns off, and warning lights automatically goes on!!
you can not start the engine -> sounds like no fuel is provided!
aber some minutes, car can be turned back on again!

thats why i could buy the car very cheap! Thumbs Up ...as i am sure to get this problem solved by myself.
i own a disco 3 since more than 10years and own a nanocom evolution which i extended to freely 2!

do you have any tips for me where i can start to look at!?

thanks, martin

Hello Martin,

So what DTCs are you getting from the nanocom evolution? Smile If there are warnings on the dash board when the engine stalls, it must be throwing something. How often does the car stall while at idle

Your "starved of fuel" approach sounds like a good place to start. Is it stalling only when the engine is warm? only after a a run at high speed etc? Also is the issue getting worse with increasing ambient temperatures now that Spring is here?

When was the fuel filter last changed & is it a genuine Land rover / Purflux filter?

thanks for your quick response.

did not had the time to check the faults with nanocom. will do it today.

the car was cold (just one minute run) when it shut down.

my thoughts are in direction of the crash detection sensor!? seems that the car thinks that i crashed?

...signals on, engine&fuel off sounds for me like this!

but anyway, i will do a fault reading lateron and check the ground connection and battery power.

keep yous updated, martin

The question about the Fuel Filter needs answering as your symptoms match those of using a Filter without the internal filter by-pass.

If you have the correct Filter, with luck the fault codes should indicate if it is a failing Sensor on engine. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 82k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

good morning,

so, yesterday i did a first deeper inspection of the freely. Rolling Eyes

did some testruns with no observations. Thumbs Up

but i find the battery voltage with 12.1V not very high! had it on the charger the night and check the vitality today. will be the first to change if it does not go above 12,5v! Twisted Evil

did totaly forget to check the fuel filter. but will replace it anyway. which one should i buy? or not buy?

the fault codes are the following:

P2601 Coolant pump control - circuit range / performance (permanent)
B10A2 Crash input - (permanent)
B10EA positive temperature coefficient heater (permanent)

thanks, martin

The PURFLUX filter has PURFLUX part number FCS624. (You can find details on the PURFLUX website) Land Rover part number LR001313. Other filters are available from other manufacturers - but probably not worth the small saving, especially if they dont have the heated fuel bypass valve fitted (cheap filters generally dont).

Your car's DTCs are interesting! Very Happy I dont know anything about the first two, but the last one [B10EA] is related to the PTC auxilliary heater in the cabin. I have the same error on my car - it is very low on my "list of things to fix...", especially now that the weather is getting better Laughing There are more details about how others have fixed the B10EA code here:- https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic22008.html.

Previous Forum Posts seem to say that the crash mode code is written permanently into the system.
