United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

Just driven over 230km from Naivasha to Timau in Kenya including some “short cuts” that required 4wd and diff lock for miles up farm tracks following my son’s Hilux. Toyota Fortuner seems to take it in its stride but I am not sure that I would want to put my FL2 through it. The vehicle has a 2.5 L engine but a 4 speed auto and quite pronounces turbo lag and doesn’t sound at all refined. The FL2 is a much more advanced and nicer car to drive. So far I have seen a few Defenders, one Disco and one FL2. Everything else is 90% Toyota 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

One thing I’ve noticed whenever Sky News publish a story about the doom and gloom of Brexit, the comments section explodes with the leave camp saying things like:

”You Lost! Get over it and stop scaremongering! Shall we have a further vote until remain get what they want? Then remain would say the outcome is valid and another vote is not fair!”

I voted remain but if remain had won, we would laugh at the suggestion of another vote so they have a point. Where suggestions come up that leavers were swayed by lies, the leave camp say the remainers also lied.

One observation I’d make regarding the claims that we were fine before the EU, so we will be fine without it, is that the world has changed an awful lot since then. It’s not going to be easy and I hope we don’t get another recession. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

We were only given the referendum to vote on so the Conservatives could see off UKIP. It backfired as we were supposed to say remain. If they had stipulated it had to be a 60 to 40 margin not a simple majority we would not be in this mess. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Just as well I have a passport for each hemisphere! While we are still part of the Commonwealth there is plenty of room to move down here before things go completely pear shaped! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Quote from BBC 2016

UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who has campaigned for the UK to leave the EU throughout his political career, said in May that a narrow win for Remain could cause unstoppable demand for a rerun of the referendum.

Just a reminder what UKIP were saying when they thought that they were losing the original 2016 referendum.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36629324

Anyway to reflect the result of the original referendum, perhaps we should only 52% leave and keep 48% of the rules (on goods tax, and workers rights, perhaps?) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

You mean, cherry pick the bits we want, and dump the bits we dont?

Isn't that what we are trying to do already? Laughing

EU only ever wanted us for our money and we were always seen as the noisy neighbour. If not they would have bent a tad towards Cameron's requests over immigration and not sent him away with a Non!!!
Both us and EU are now regretting their move.

Personally I think , what's done is done so make the best of it, unlike comrade Corbyn using it to his own ends. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

200 more jobs to go and Engine Plant to 'pause' production.

It is begining to look as if JLR is becoming less and less a UK company.

Or am I (hopefully) wrong? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Could be Ian as it seems a lot of companies have an easy scapegoat in Brexit.

Whatever happened to the Great British spirit of we can do and build anything? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I agree with JulesK: Brexit is a very convenient scapegoat for an industry that's over producing as a whole. Supply and demand - too much supply and not enough demand. There are far more cars out there already than there are owners. The second hand market is saturated with vehicles. One only has to look at eBay, Autotrader, Exchange and Mart ,Gumtree etc to see just how many surplus vehicles are out there, that's without all the thousands of new cars being churned out by the manufacturers every week. This cannot be sustained at the rate it is.
Older cars are just not being scrapped fast enough.
I reckon there should also be some sort of compulsory scheme where by any car that fails more than 2 MOT's in a row has to be scrapped. That would mean an end to the people who don't look after their cars and who do the bare minimum to keep it on the road.

If you check the MOT's of , say, 10 vehicles for sale on eBay, I guarantee that some will have the same advisories year after year. If the vehicle doesn't fail on them, they get left until they do become failures and it's only then that they get sorted.

Ian what you propose is similar to what the Japanese do ............. this is why we get their 'cast-off' vehicles.
