United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Just filled up today and checked brim to brim calculation which gave 35.6 mpg average, again slightly improving upon my previous best figure. Now on 30k miles.
What’s interesting about this is that it was achieved during the exceptional summer temperatures we are getting (35 Celsius in Northern Ireland one day last week Surprised ) I have been driving with both front windows down most days and a/c off, occasionally both rears down too which is often said to be bad for fuel economy. I have probably only driven at 60 on motorways instead of 70 to keep wind noise down. I’m not driving it like Miss Daisy though ! Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Just been away to Cornwall from Notts. 340 miles. Averaged 22.4 MPG.

Mind you, towing 1500kg van with roofbox on and 4 adults so shouldn't complain. Confused Andy

Dorset to Orkney and back, south coast to north coast, going up the west coast and down east coast. Just about as far as you can go in the UK in one trip. 37.4 mpg on 2090 miles. SD4 Auto no caravan, just lots of nice hotels and a bottle of Glenmorangie in the back from the visitor centre.

 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

Jus sold our FL2 Sport LE 61 plate and averaged 34mpg over 60000 miles in total. Not too bad but have traded it for something more economical....

Right been working my MPG out over the last 13,300 miles or so (since I bought the Freelander) - an SD4 XS (so 190 bhp auto)

My average is 33.5 mpg with a low of 25.9 mpg (this was with the caravan hitched up for most of the miles) and a high of 41 mpg (longer run and not in a rush)

All in all more than happy with this. Very Happy

Latest update

After a few more miles and fill ups I am now averaging 33.4MPG
A trip with the van up to Brecon brought the average down (29mpg for that trip) but a run up to Stockport over the weekend helped it back up (38mpg)

I travelled around about half of Australia & did various tests over tank fulls of fuel to see what things might be more economical. I had lots of level roads & about the only things to factor in is a tailwind or headwind. 1 L/100 saving or about 1 to 2 L/100 additional!

Turning off the air conditioning as far as I could tell makes next to no difference in fuel economy. If there is a saving life is to short & being comfortable is more about safety which could save one an awful lot of dollars not having an accident.

Folding in mirrors as far as I could tell is an unmeasurable difference.

25 PSI on dirt road vs 35 PSI on sealed road. Not a great deal in increased fuel economy. After 20 minutes tyre pressure increases 4 to 5 PSI in both cases.

95 vs 140 (car) 89 vs 134 (GPS), twice the fuel consumption, this is not a good thing in Australia as it too far between petrol stations. Better to go slower & save money for beer!

17,700 km 10.48 L/100 - 27 mpg petrol, AC on 95% & second spare wheel on roof plus 50 litres extra fuel. 3000 km tyres at 25 PSI or less for corrugated dirt roads. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

only getting 29.6 average on my sd4 , is this about right new air and fuel filter and egr blank with hole

Depends on your type of journey. Seems a bit lower than most and I would have thought the Egr blank would have improved the consumption.
On a related note, how do you find the egr blanking plate, does it make the car feel more lively, any error messages / limp mode? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Fuel consumption

I’ve achieved 35 over all up and down motorways using cruise control and feather right foot!

Normal is 25/28mpg 2008 HSE

blanking plate has small hole so dont bring on light, and for more lively feels better but thats me thinking it is
