It is indeed proof that LR have gone down the wrong route if the only worthwhile upgrade route they can offer is a newer, Approved, FL2 and a new X3 is perceived to be a better bet than anything LR have to offer Shocked Sad

Besides, it’s not all bad news; the current generation of BMW’s, like the GO1, are a lot less ugly than they were and as a tall/short high riding, road biased, estate car it certainly makes a lot more sense than a 320d touring. I’d be interested to see how that 47mpg figure compares to a longer term brim to brim test, but even at a more realistic 40mpg it’s as good a compensation as any Wink

I’d be interested to know. I’ll hazard a guess that it might do slightly better than mine Rolling Eyes

I'm a technician for BMW and the new X3 is a nice comfy drive with a stunning interior, the old generations though are not good at all, ride too hard and transfer boxes very common to fail, we change loads of them, the interior is a bit naff too. The 6 pot diesels are lovely though in all of them.

Another FL2 owner seeing the light! Thumbs Up

Still loving my X3 (second one now), runs as sweet as a nut, love the head up display (which if I ever change in the future is a must have option now), rides smoothly and comfortable. Still have this X3 until 2020 - I would only consider the G01 X3 as a replacement nothing else floats my boat! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

I can see that happening.

But, unlike Mercedes and the funsters that put that PhotoShop image together, it will be a clean sheet design to include class leading blind spots, an inexplicably small loadbay and a punishing ride with ultra low profile run flat tyres Whistle Laughing

FL2 gone now after 10 years for X3 20d

After a week since I parted with my FL2 I find myself back on this site looking for inspiration. The big issue with the BMW (17 plate 2.0 litre turbo) is the run flat tyres, what an awful ride. Should I part with more loot to give it normal tyres (Pirelli Scorpion ATRs) or look out for a low mileage FL2 SD4 HSE? This would result in a drop of £5K for the week. After a run on a Motorway I have doubts about the steering assist too. I was fighting the steering to make those micro adjustments to keep the car balanced, needless to say the Beemer sales man dint know what I was on about. The wife likes it though!
Cheers,
Iain.

I’ve run BMW MINI’s with runflats and while they are not quite the work of the devil, changing to conventional tyres is highly unlikely to transform the ride; you’ll likely notice only a bit of difference.

Unless the car has been supplied with drug dealer wheels, which are easy to get rid of, this will just be one of the differences between a softly sprung, genuinely off road, car and a tall “sport” road car. You might get used to it in time.

Before you commit to losing £5,000, what drew you to the X3 in the first place? Are they still reasons enough to get used to the harsh ride? If not, the £5,000 “loss” is acedemic and is no reason to suffer with a car that you don’t like.

The best facility that “steering assist” can have is an “off” setting! I’ve found it in the default settings in the Full Fat; is there one on the X3?

Re: Left Freelander ownership and bought a BMW X3...

Do we really care .... I certainly don't! Confused

Reckon any opinions both good or bad of the FL2 defector's vehicles should be posted on the appropriate websites.

But maybe I'm just caught in a rare 'grumpy moment' Neutral FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.
