Slippery Wrangler

I have Goodyear Wrangler All-weather for 3+ years. Done about 40 k Km and it shows wear on the edges of front ones (like it is tearing apart). On wet surface with normal speed front end sometimes slips away. So I don’t have confidence in this tyres any more (only one thing is good – it is very quiet) and they will be replaced (before winter). I am thinking about Nokian or Michelin (both all weather). Can you share any experiences about this tyres with me? Thanks.

I have a set of Nokian Weatherproofs on my FL2 - very happy with them.

I use them only over the winter months rather than all year round - I switch between tyres when the clocks change.

I have Wranglers on my Freelander, I like them! I live in the Scottish Highlands and, to be honest, I really can't fault them. I'm due to replace the rear tyres in the next couple of months and I'll definitely be putting Wranglers on again.

Any tyre will be less efficient as the tread depth reduces. I'm guessing that after 40K km tyres will be down to around 4mm tread depth or lower and will therefore be much less efficient than when new. It is no coincidence that in Germany, Austria and some other Countries the minimum legal tread depth is 4mm.

I've had 2 sets of Wranglers under my FL2 and on both sets, once they hit around 3 to 4mm they became very slippy. Driving on damp tarmac felt like driving on ice, which made roundabouts fun but a little unnerving. Braking distance also starts to extend. I go through a set of tyres a year (due to distance) so I doubt it was an age issue, just wear.

I'm now on Continental Cross Contact as they where cheaper than the Wranglers.

IME, Wranglers do tend to get a bit noisy and misshapen as they near the end of their life.

I have 2 low Wranglers on the rear of mine, and they will be coming off next week
