I would like a set of WINTER tyres
Currently on 19” 235.55.

Does anyone know where to buy steel wheels?

Was thinking of 17” steels with WINTER tyres, 235.70.17?

Suggestions please

I would not waste my money on winter tyres the FL2 is far more than capable of dealing with the UK winters on stock 19” tyres just make sure they have plenty of tread, unless you are doing serious off road that is.

Thanks for the suggestion but Ireally do want a second set of winter wheels

I just wanted to go downhill safely in the ice and snow and the winter compound seemed to offer some insurance.

If we pop over to France this winter I didnt want to get knicked

Got some Klebers on our Clio and it outperformed a few Fwds uphills last winter.

Can’t decide on size of winter wheels though.

I have the same problem although I have opted to go for a second set of wheels 19 inch. I managed to pick up some Evoque 19 inch alloys on gumtree and intend to fit Hankook i-cept winter tyres

There are plenty of evoque/landrover alloys on ebay if you cannot source any steels

Someone was asking Dan (see the Duckworth Parts section under Site Sponsors) about some steels recently.

Else as suggested ebay has lots of Freender/Ewok alloys

My ideal scenario was a set of steel wheels 17” to use with a set of 70? WINTER tyres, giving me the peace of mind that I have less chance of mangling the rim edges in snow

Get some older 17" LR FL2 wheels you wont do much damage and if you do its patina. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Can you get them in 235 70 17.

Is that the size to retain the same circumference as the 235.55.19?

I use CrossClimates all year around so I would go for something like below unless I lived up a mountain track that was ice and snow for months and then I would use a Defender: The fact of using 17" wheels will make a big difference.

236/65 R17 is best fit and yes there are winter tyres that size ( no tyres available for the size you suggested) Jules

the stock sizes are

235/65 R17
235/60 R18
235/55 R19

By moving the speed rating up (or I guess even down as well but use some common sense on that one) gives you a better choice of tyres. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I have done a bit of snow and ice driving, winter compounds seem to make a big difference.

Alas,unlike the Germans, I couldn’t afford winter tyres then and just made do with Michelin 1200x20 on the tractor unit.

And my trusty chains.

One chain on one front steering axle
One chain on one wheel at rear most trailer axle
Full sets on both drive axles (double drive)

But then that was to negotiate Tahir Pass in Eastern Turkey on the way to Iran.

I bought a set of Evoque 19" rims and winter sport conti winter contacts, been good for the couple of winters, now have general grabber At3'S on the standard alloys 19" which would function well in the winter.
