I want to carry a motorcycle that weighs 400lbs.

At the moment I have a detachable swan neck which I know is nowhere near capable.

The carrier uses the 2" square version of the tow bar so I have asked Dan about the LR007482 version.
But when I asked about its specs, he came back with, from Land Rover;

LR007482 - Handles up to 3,500-lb (1587.6kg) trailer load capacity and a 330-lb (149.7kg) tongue weight capacity.

Which isn't enough. But the towing capacity isn't even close to the cars limit.

So the question is, what do you guys that tow 'heavy' use?

I would have thought that the weights quoted apply when this bracket fitted to Disco or FFRR not Freel2

Towing capacity of Freel2 is 2000kg with nose weight of 150 kg.

As above its not about the ability to tow a weight but the nose weight on the towbar which takes into account the load it transfers onto the suspension system.
I have no doubt that the Freelander could take the weight of your motorcycle however Landrover have calculated and quoted the max nose weight permissible and were you to be involved in an accident your insurance could be voided.
I dont believe those receiver type tow bars are permitted in the UK anyway, although they are a brilliant bit of kit. Every 4x4 in the US seem to come from the factory with them already fitted, just needing the towball fitted. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Now that's the sort of figure I was expecting, as while trying to find a way to do it, I found that the Americans go by a tenth of the maximum tow weight.

So back to my original post.

Where can you get a tow bar capable of the maximum tow weight?

would you not be better just getting a bike trailer ?

It's mainly to do with storage space at home, I don't have any!

The normal trailer I do have, a Duuo, collapses down and stores away in a third of its normal footprint.

It's looking like, if I go ahead with the idea I will have to either down scale the bike, or up scale the motor.
But I don't want to do either.

There are also advantages in savings on ferry crossings etc.
