Morons

Just driven back home, about 160 miles pretty much all motorway, M40 then M25, absolutely shagging down with rain the whole way and there are people out there with no Censored lights on Banging Head And these aren't the Miss Daisy's crawling along in the nearside lanes, no, these Censored are out there at 80mph in the outside. Do they think it wears the bulbs out? Are they really that naive to think that their daylight running lights come on at the back as well, clearly they do. What's wrong with headlights guys?

I agree rear visibility in those conditions is all important.
The ones who put on the fog lights I don't understand either?

My DS, D5 and Velar all have rear DRLs

Auto headlights to blame though, everyone forgets that they can and should turn them on themselves in poor conditions. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Once I am having difficulty seeing the cars ahead on the motorway (or other high speed roads) in heavy daytime spray, I put my rear 'high intensity' lights on.

To me it makes sense to be seen in bad visibility.

PS I also use front fog lights to illuminate the sides of the road near to the car, when driving down some of our dark narrow roads (lanes?), of course I switch them off if I meet any other vehicles.

Surely if you have extra lights, you use them as necessary. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Fog lights are for use in fog or falling snow only as are rear "high intensity" lights. Using either in heavy rain is unhelpful.

But rain is not all bad; it lubricates your tyres and makes them last longer!!!

Can the rear lights be activated to be on all the time? I don't have auto lights (which don't always work in spray from my experience) Its okay having front DRL's on all the time time, but why nothing at the rear? Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

The problem is that there is no standard, DRL's when first introduced with Volvo were front and rear then the cheaper cars came with tungsten/halogen DRL's only on the front, some VW's use the fog/driving lights as DRL's, most drivers just assume they have lights all round if they show at the front.
I don't know what comes on with all FL2's but my lights come on when the auto wipers energise in constant rain, so possibly the more you pay the more ignorant of your cars capabilities you can safely be, and just lazy, the car does it all Rolling Eyes my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I wouldn't have a problem with my tail lights being on all the time. If I turn them on, my DRL's switch off and at the front I just have the thin rope style sidelights. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

To me, the spray on highspeed roads is as good as fog at reducing visibility.

PS On the subject of fog, I do not think that anyone under the age of 60 has ever experienced real 'pea soup' fog.
We knew how to do pollution in the good old days. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I think your dealer can configure the lights to "Scandinavian mode" which switches the tail lights on at the same time as the DRLs.
They've since seen sense, and my DS has lights on all round as standard. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I recall one night in 1988, the fog was so bad one night that all you could distinguish was the glow from the street lamps , but you couldn't see the lamps themselves unless you were close enough to touch them. . You had to walk slowly as you really could not see where the kerb was . And still there were idiots trying to drive in it. It was really unnerving. You could hear the cars, but could not see them. Then every now and then, "BANG". where the drivers smashed into parked cars. It was bad enough trying to walk in it let alone drive in it. Those were proper morons. .
