1. Japan made, not German.
2. There is a drain plug and also a filler plug.
3. Land Rover says change oil at 10 years or 240.000 km, so it's not sealed for life.
4. The same box is used on various other applications where the interval change is, generally, around 60.000 km.
5. Oil should comply with JWS3309, do not put Dexron 3 or others. Use only ATF3309.

So... it's your choice, depending on what you want form your car....

My car is a 250000km Freelander2 in 2013. Which type of automatic transmission oil should I change?
Our repair shop here can use asin’s afw or afw+

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

Hi, I've just changed the fluid in my 2014 SD4 auto using this :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Aisin-Type-W...SwXetZW3PU

Hopefully the above link works! The EBay seller is sussexautopartsltd. They also sell Aisin parts such as valve bodies etc, hopefully won't need anything like that for a while!

Cheers

Belgium 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Indus Silver

Thank god for the forum, I have just changed mine and was horrified when on removing the level plug lots of oil came out (1-1.5l approx)
I then drained out the rest and got approx 2 litres, I then filled it until it ran out the level plug and then after closing the level plug, I then started the engine and warmed up the oil and prepeated the procedure 3 times. Thinking that I had done it correctly I was very pleased with myself as I thought the box had been overfilled and I had now done it correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an idiot, I shall put another 1.5 litres in the morning and then check the level with the engine running Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Without the forum I could be facing a very expensive repair.....

Many Thanks to all concerned Bow down Bow down Bow down If it ain't ***ked don't fix it

Thanks
I took a look but they only show standard ATF not synthetic maybe need to contact them to be 100% clear, Ive been reading all of this thread and I looked at the manual procedure to re fill the box, and Im not fully clear on the level filler plug arrangement, in the procedure it says:

12. Fill the transmission with the correct fluid until it runs from the level plug.
13. Install the transmission fluid level plug.
Torque:7 Nm
14. Add an additional 0.5 litres of transmission fluid.

Where do you add the extra 0.5 litre ?
