oil change automatic gearbox

Hi everyone. Can some one tell me when oil should be changed on automatic gearbox.
2 dealers here in Sussex tell me sealed for life?
Auto gear box specialists tells me its a German made gearbox and oil should be replaced every 45000 miles 57 reg GS leather seats panoramic sun roof

It is as you say, it is Sealed For Life, changing the oil is not easy as there is no drain plug, it can be done though, suggest you try a search on here, there are a number of threads, one explains how to do it. There is also a Filter in the box, but to change the Filter you need to remove the Gearbox. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

1. Japan made, not German.
2. There is a drain plug and also a filler plug.
3. Land Rover says change oil at 10 years or 240.000 km, so it's not sealed for life.
4. The same box is used on various other applications where the interval change is, generally, around 60.000 km.
5. Oil should comply with JWS3309, do not put Dexron 3 or others. Use only ATF3309.

So... it's your choice, depending on what you want form your car....

I'm sure that they have a combined drain and filler plug. I remember seeing it when I topped mine up. From memory, there's a big drain bolt, about 20mm in size. Remove that and you can drain the oil. In the middle of that bolt, there's a smaller bolt about 10mm in size. If you remove that small bolt only. It screws into a tube that goes up into the gearbox. I filled up the gearbox from the top and when it gets to the correct level inside, any excess overflows down the tube. When it stops overflowing you are at the correct level and you put the small bolt back in. Or was I dreaming. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

No, it's correct what you've saw and was reality... Laughing Maybe an alternate one, but reality.
With the sole mention that the oil temperature should be monitored and oil level checked only when the oil temperature is around 60 degrees Celsius.
In other words, if you don't want to bother too much, fill it, check it, drive around the block a few laps and then check it again.

LE: See that the user oilman has this kind of oil in shop and has a discount these days...

When I said no Drain Plug, this was meant as no Drain Plug in the bottom. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Was working from memory and getting mixed up with another thread where the oil was changed with a length of pipe on a plastic bottle.

This one, getting one end mixed up with the other. Rolling Eyes

auto gear box oil change

hi all thanks for all your input on this subject for the record here are some quotes to change oils .
Harwoods £300 Caffyns £220 Sussex auto gearbox centre £120 to £140 depending on oil chosen.
So the question is does it need changing at 45000 miles or as per land rover a lot more miles 57 reg GS leather seats panoramic sun roof

Well mines on 72,000 with no oil change ever being done to my knowledge but I may change it on the 75,000 mile service. Probably give it a double flush and clear out the torque converter but all it will cost me is for the oil at trade price. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

There is no need for double flush.
After you drop the oil from the sump and fill it with the same quantity of fresh oil, for the oil trapped inside the converter, you can disconnect the automatic box oil radiator output hose and with the engine running, the box will expunge the old oil whilst you keep feed fresh oil through the top filler plug with the approximately same rate as oil exits. Don't worry if you can't feed it with exactly the same rate as exiting, because the box has 7 liters and -1 liter is not the end of the world. In fact this is the way the oil changing machines does it.
When the oil that's exiting has the same colour as the fresh oil, then you stop, reconnect the hose, and fill it to the level.
