Speed Awareness Course

Just completed a SAC for doing 26mph in a 20mph area. Course was specific for 20mph infringement and in all honesty was completed in a professional lighthearted way with maybe a couple of useful points.

They confirmed that attendance was completely confidential and that Insurance companies did not have access to any data nor would they be given any. They majored on speed kills, which we know is true, and they also claimed that more and more of our streets will become 20mph zones. I was booked by the Bristol and NE Somerset police and was offered a SAC - apparently very few Police forces offer this for breach of the 20mph limit and go straight to £100 fine and 3 points. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

"Just completed a SAC for doing 26mph in a 30mph area. "

Think you should appeal against that. Thumbs Up Common sense isn't very common.

Bristol is a very confusing mix of 20 and 30mph zones. This applies not only to side streets but to main roads which have adjoining stretches at different speed limits for no obvious reason. I find it quite confusing to drive through Bristol, but I think that it is part of the plan to dissuade cars from entering Bristol.

There is talk in the local paper of reducing this further in the side streets to 15mph, as I tend to use 'cruise control' to obey the limits this will cause me problems as it doesn't work below 19mph.

I have every sympathy with the OP as it will be only a matter of time before I make a similar mistake. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I got my SAC for doing 71mph on the M1 at precisely the same time the overhead gantry speed sign changed to 60mph.

There is stretch of current roadworks from J1 to about J2 of the M5, where you come off the M6 in a 70mph zone, there is short stretch of 50mph then the remainder of around 5 miles of roadworks is 30mph. This is in force 24/7 regardless of anyone actually working or low volume of traffic. Its a nightmare to drive on tbh.

Later in the morning that I posted the above comment, I took my green bags to the Recycling Centre.

As I was driving back through a local village, which has newly installed safety measures including a 20mph zone, I noticed that I had become popular. Several of the oncoming cars flashed their lights and gave my a friendly wave. As I did not recognise anyone, and although its nice to see a FL2 on the road, I don't normally attract attention, I thought it might be best to drive carefully. (and on past this a motorcycle policeman, partly hiding behind a house wall, aiming an hairdryer? at the cars)

All I hope is that my speed did not vary as I dodged around the newly installed islands, that partially block the road, and make progress through the traffic awkward. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Yeah those stupid flower boxes with 20mph on stick out into the road causing chaos at times. If it's where I think you mean that is. Smile Freelander 2 HSE TD4 2007

Where I live the majority of the residential streets have been changed to 20 mph zones. The local police have been quoted as saying they won't enforce the new speed limit. Most of the cars etc have slowed down but it's really difficult to stick to 20. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Jack, I know what your saying. A lot of the locals are miffed with the council about this. Why spend all the money changing signs etc for the police to say they won’t enforce it. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

The truth is Stevie , they can already rake in so much cash from their camera vans they don’t need to enforce the 20 limits . West Yorks Safety Partnetship or whatever they call themselves are an extremely efficient business , and make no mistake speeding enforcement is a business expressly design to catch more people and put cash from mobile cameras into the local coffers . In effect it is a feudal taxation of the local highway Rolling with laughter 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

In Dorset the police have a van with hi viz writing on it saying that it's a speed detection van. They advertise online and in the local papers as to where it will be stationed on each day. Never quite worked out the logic on this one. Shocked 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
