As “Vanny” quite rightly said “it’s not completed until the phaaat lady sings”, well a can quite clearly hear the “phaaat lady” singing, Pet Shop Boys in this instance, quite clearly through the headphones now, not that the Pet Shop Boys would like
Me referring to them as the “phaaat lady”🤔
Led fully lite indicating receiving audio signals.
I tested the headphones from the passenger seat and worked perfectly also, so a bonus is the passenger can also watch the TV/movie whilst the driver can listen to any audio source which is far less distracting.

Have fitted the wireless headphone transmitter and fully tested it and it’s working perfectly.

Last real job to do is to put 2 usb outlets in the back of the centre console, 1 for PWR/input into the RSE system and the other just a 5v outlets for charging. I’ve already bought spare covers ready for this purpose. I’ve have something quite special planned and should really finish of everything really nicely and “factory” with a bit more “Grand Black Laquer” being used to match door handles.

I also ran the LVDS cable from the RSE module in the rear to under the drivers seat ready to be connect to the USB port in the rear of the console.

Well i'm a little bit behind Stu, which is annoying as at one point I was ahead, but I have one fully working screen and headphones! She's grown out of Peppa so will be watching 'Robots' for the time being.

I'm still awaiting the remote control. The white fire transmitter is strapped to a rear head rest. I still dont have a second screen. And haven't replaced the non functioning DVB-t module. But that is just fettling now . . .

If your interested, total cost so far has been £305. The screen was the main expense, and I did really well with the RSE module and harness.

And relax.

Rear USB’s installed and operational including some matching illumination.
Left hand USB outlet is 500ma charger and input to rear entertainment whilst right USB outlet is a
fast charge outlet which plugs directly into power outlet in centre compartment.
All that’s remaining to do now is the WiFi/hotspot which will allow rear seat passengers to stream/mirror services such as Stan, Netflix, utube directly to rear screens.

Where did you get your rear USB ports from?

Did you fit the AVIO panel? Not sure if this would ever be used with today's tech so trying to decide whether to install it or not.

Great write up and thread this one! I’m almost there too, fitted TV (fully working), upgraded Meridian sound system (fully working) and fitted RSE (sadly the rear screen not coming on). Anyone got any things for me to try to get this working?

Do you ever see the start logo at ignition on after a sleep?
Can you see the back lighing on at its dimmest setting when the ignition is on?

Of you don't see these check they are getting power.

If the CAN wires are the wrong way around, you'll get no display but should get the startup logo.

If the power and CAN are okay, check the wire from the FCDIM to the RSE module.

Are you sure you have the right screens? There are many, some are not compatible.

Finally, if you have a TV module installed (correctly) then there are a lot of wiring harness difference to RSE on its own.

As it's your 3rd post, with little information what you've actually done (how) or what steps you've taken to fault find, it's a little hard to pin point the problem.

Hi,

Thanks for this. Followed your questions and buzzed everything out which checked out ok. Then I thought I’d just try connecting the monitors directly to the RSE module with some long cables I had made as a backup and bingo they worked. Had to change the CCF on mine to the following and used the GAP diagnostic tool:

Headphone sockets, rear -> 06: Without headphone outlets and 1 digital output
Rear entertainment system.-> 03: RSE - Without extra DVD
Television tuner -> 03: Television digital DVB-T

TV now all fully working too. So I’m not sure what’s happened to my installed harness as the feeds to the screens checked out with a meter but don’t work when plugged in. Any ideas? Ideally I don’t want to have to run new wires so would love to work out what’s going on.

There is a fault in the wiring for the CANbus connections. Well actually there are two faults. Ignore the wiring diagram, try swapping the pins at the screen and it will magically sort it's self out.

The diagram is wrong, but the harness is also wrong in the wire going from the bottom of the seat to the screen. So the bits you can see look right, but need to be crossed over.

Thanks for that Vanny. Really sound advice. I actually made my own terminations at the seat base so had corrected the wiring fault without realising it. Turns out the problem was with the video signal leads where I’d spliced the tails onto my harness. There must be something going on with interference / impedance as even connecting a 12” section of that lead with the sheath removed and the signal wires exposed causes the picture to break up and completely disappear. I undef up routing those end to end terminated cables from the load space to the seat bases again. It’s what I didn’t want to have to do as it was an all seats out job but it’s done now and it works.

If I remember correctly didn’t StuartC have a similar problem with his splices? He mention caravan guy showing him how to splice without signal loss, but he sadly never shared that knowledge on this forum unless anyone else knows what technique was used. Out of interest I spliced those connections together by individually isolating and splicing the signal wise and then using mesh as a shield to ensure that she was on interrupted. For anyone interested I spliced those connections together by individually isolating and splicing the signal wires and then using mesh as a shield to ensure that shield was uninterrupted - still didn’t work though!

Out of interest, what information does the CAN between the RSE module and the screens actually carry? I’m guessing at least remote control signals from the screens but what else?

I don't know for sure, but I suspect all the live data is sent by CAN to the screen which decodes it and draws it over the signal source. So all the menus/text along with some of the source selection (from remote to screen to head unit). It's quite a bit of data. Far too much for LIN so would make sense to use CAN.

Retro fitting into evoque

Hi, I'm in the process of retrofitting into an evoque 2013 prestige lux, I've got the screens, headrests (pending retrim) the rse module, the centre console end finisher with vents, power socket, aux inputs, a touch screen remote and a standard remote plus 4 headphones. I've changed the CCF file to turn on the rear screen options and now in the process of building the loom. I'm struggling to find a supplier in the uk of the green blue and white lvds/gvif cables I think they are and also the size of the crimp tins do the power and earth.

The headrest cables were cut by whoever removed them from a sport, is it just a case I wondering these cables back together?

Thanks in advance

James
