2011 Freelander 2 SD4 S Auto Kosrae Green

Dear all,

Installed the Xtrons 78 (3G RAM and Android Cool, all works nice. The system is starting in less than 10 seconds and Waze is simply flying. Two main issues:
- no Radio in the system. The change in between the in-dash radio and the Xtrons is done by pressing the AUX button. Disabled the speaker of Xtrons doesn't really worth it;
- do have a Bluetooth Parrot MKi 9000 installed. When Parrot is enabled (ie phone rings) the Xtrons is shut down. Need to find a way to disable this. Will update in near future

Best regards,
Serban

Are the steering wheel controls all working well Serbian?

Have you hooked up a reverse camera too?

Thanks mate.

That's a shame. I like it, but if I can't change USB tracks from the steering wheel any longer, it's a real turn-off for me.

Thanks for everyone taking the time to review and talk about their Xtrons experiences. Definitely on the list for me.

Just noticed that there's a newer model out for us, the PB78DLRPL: http://xtrons.com/pb78dlrpl-android-8-octa...rover.html

8 core vs 4 core
Android 8 vs Android 7.1
4GB RAM vs 2GB
32GB ROM vs 16GB

Still no radio (but doesn't seem to be a deal breaker for most as old radio stays working).

EDIT: Capitain_z, this would be same one you installed?

Hi,

Looking the manual here:

http://xtrons.co.uk/user-guides/Android-7....Manual.pdf

There is a mention of Page 27 of "5.4 Steering Wheel Keys".

Frustratingly there is no further information at all! Confused

That's exactly the one installed on my car. In terms of speed and functionalities, is pretty instant on (was out for the whole week, the moment i start in the car, the sat nav delay was sub 1 sec) and all apps are running absolutely great. The missing radio and the lack of integration with the steering wheel controls are the drawbacks.

There is no options to configure the steering wheel controls like this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ2DRifUMac

It seems pretty strange that XTrons would not offer that in a unit for a Land Rover. Confused

I must say I’m tempted by this but my guess on the steering wheel controls are if they are also connected to the original alpine unit they can’t be used to control two different systems. Hence they don’t work for the xtron. Anyone back me up on that thought? Could you disconnect them from the alpine and transfer them over to the xtron somehow with the right connectors?

If no one figures it out before me, I will definitely be up for some tinkering to try and get this running when i can afford to pick up an Xtrons in the next couple of months.

(Off Topic: Like the username Armalite, currently running 5.56 as my go to gun, with a .300 upper I can drop on for bigger stuff)

The steering wheel controls should be able to control both.

I currently have the standard head unit with the Land Rover optional USB/Ipod connector which interfaces at the back of the radio. When you switch to Aux, the steering wheel controls choose next/prev track on the USB/Ipod unit rather than the stereo. Switch to radio or CD and the steering controls go back to controlling the radio or CD.

Not sure what would happen with the phone steering wheel buttons, as my car is not equipped with bluetooth phone. Brett Nicholson

The steering wheel does the buttons for your iPod connection through the car stereo though and because the iPod connection is made my land rover. Fitting a completely external device like this head unit the only steering control that will work is the volume if you link the unit to the cars aux input.

The device sold by Land Rover is also a completely external device. It interfaces to the original radio via the aux port just like the Xtrons unit. Other Xtrons units are capable of reading the Canbus signal from the steering wheel controls. So this one should be able to also. Brett Nicholson

This unit? https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/104...eelander_2

Surely if it's through a normal aux cable it can't process data. There has to be more than just an aux cable for it to work.
But I agree with you about the other xtrons units, seems strange they say it won't work, software problems?

Yes, that's the unit. It is more than just an Aux cable. It takes over the Aux input and also reads the canbus signal from the steering wheel controls. To use it you switch to Aux on the stereo. Then flick a seperate switch that interrupts the aux port. You can then change usb or ipod tracks from your steering wheel controls and the sound comes through the stereo. The stereo display just says "Aux", it does not display track information. I've never used the iPod cable, just the usb. It works well. I'm considering the Xtrons unit mainly because I now want an integrated looking gps and reverse camera. Also I hate that stupid, ill-fitting little tray below the cubby hole. (Where the Xtrons unit places some buttons.) Brett Nicholson
