Thanks for everyone taking the time to review and talk about their Xtrons experiences. Definitely on the list for me.

That's exactly the one installed on my car. In terms of speed and functionalities, is pretty instant on (was out for the whole week, the moment i start in the car, the sat nav delay was sub 1 sec) and all apps are running absolutely great. The missing radio and the lack of integration with the steering wheel controls are the drawbacks. |

I must say I’m tempted by this but my guess on the steering wheel controls are if they are also connected to the original alpine unit they can’t be used to control two different systems. Hence they don’t work for the xtron. Anyone back me up on that thought? Could you disconnect them from the alpine and transfer them over to the xtron somehow with the right connectors? |

If no one figures it out before me, I will definitely be up for some tinkering to try and get this running when i can afford to pick up an Xtrons in the next couple of months. (Off Topic: Like the username Armalite, currently running 5.56 as my go to gun, with a .300 upper I can drop on for bigger stuff) |

The steering wheel controls should be able to control both.

The steering wheel does the buttons for your iPod connection through the car stereo though and because the iPod connection is made my land rover. Fitting a completely external device like this head unit the only steering control that will work is the volume if you link the unit to the cars aux input. |

The device sold by Land Rover is also a completely external device. It interfaces to the original radio via the aux port just like the Xtrons unit. Other Xtrons units are capable of reading the Canbus signal from the steering wheel controls. So this one should be able to also. Brett Nicholson

Yes, that's the unit. It is more than just an Aux cable. It takes over the Aux input and also reads the canbus signal from the steering wheel controls. To use it you switch to Aux on the stereo. Then flick a seperate switch that interrupts the aux port. You can then change usb or ipod tracks from your steering wheel controls and the sound comes through the stereo. The stereo display just says "Aux", it does not display track information. I've never used the iPod cable, just the usb. It works well. I'm considering the Xtrons unit mainly because I now want an integrated looking gps and reverse camera. Also I hate that stupid, ill-fitting little tray below the cubby hole. (Where the Xtrons unit places some buttons.) Brett Nicholson
