Light Bar Inside Lower Grill

Has anyone attempted or looked into putting an LED bar in the lower grill?

Looking to avoid exterior mounting. Will get a rego mount if I have to though.

Its dark up in QLD in the winter!

I would also be concerned at the reduction in air fow but also don't anticipate the light would be very effective. It would be so low as to cause shadows from almost any low obstruction. You may as well switch on your front fog lights.

You can get a multi beam conversion for the fog lights so you could switch them to work with high beam as well as be fog lights perhaps?

A relative of mine used to work for the Welsh Ambulance service and they had to ferry a patient to a hospital in London. On the way back they got stuck in London traffic so the driver put the blue lights on. A week or two later the driver got a dressing down by the boss as they had been picked up by traffic cameras and questions were asked as to how a Welsh ambulance could possibly be on an emergency call in London. Shocked 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Unless he was on an emergency call he shouldn't have been running on blues. If he was returning from the London hospital, it suggests that was the case; that's why his boss pulled him up.

You’d be amazed at what blue lights and sirens have been used for. Making sure you get back to the station before your chips get cold Whistle
Nowadays though emergency vehicles are tracked in real time and controllers know if you have lights and sirens activated and will query why if you are not attending an emergency call. Fun times are gone 🙄

Anyway, back to the light bar, I’m not sure cooling would be affected too much by a slim light bar and the amount of light some of them put out I’d think the light on the road even behind a grille would be good. It's quite common up here, seen plenty of cars/SUVs with this sort of mounting. Even starting to see custom grills with a mount for the likes of Hilux' and Rangers. There are plenty of pros and cons, as with anything. Although.. I wouldn't be reducing airflow anyhwere near what the WRX has..

Do you actually need theses extra lights. People generally avoid driving at night in the outback.

The last few trips I was on, on the few rare nights we were late getting to camp there was so many kangaroos that the maximum speed we could do was about 40 kph. Also the major road signs outback the reflective surface throws back so much light blinding you you can't use high beam, & this is with standard halogen.

The fog lights work well for seeing edges of pot holes on fire trails. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I was having a look yesterday and there is a gap between the bottom of the radiator and the bottom of the grill aperture. Putting a light bar there might actually improve cooling by stopping air bypassing the rad.

While too low for general lighting (as noted above) it would be good for showing the road edge, pot holes etc.

I find myself almost taking a U turn on my previous comment to the point of contemplating the mod. It would mean some serious faffing about though and, while I hate the boy racer fog lights on when it isn't foggy, switching the fog light switch would probably have the same effect.

What would be handy is an interface that allows the fog lights to switch on with main beam. Why isn't that standard? You want main beam, you want more light and there are two light sources sitting there doing nothing. They are too low to cause additional dazzling problems. There must be a reason.
