TBH, if you are so concerned about running costs, buy a Micra. No one ever bought a Land Rover for fuel economy. They bought it for what it can do/could do/will do. Mine, I wanted a capable and reliable car to tow our caravan. At that job, it is superb. Yes, fuel economy could be better( see below, my honest overall consumption over some 4 years mixed driving, solo and towing), but in my experience, nothing is more enjoyable to drive. You can keep your euroboxes etc, I will keep my Freelander 2 - and I do not want a Disco Sport!

only speak from my experience, I don't get the MPG that some on here do, HSE 07 manual seems to average 36 mpg for all driving conditions, so roughly 15 gallon tank , so whatever fuel costs where you are maybe about £84 to fill an empty tank.

I test drove a 59 plate XS td4.e manual and it drove superbly, even with 107k miles on it. I'm not overly worried about the fuel cost as my mileage is low, but that does with me concerns about the DPF.

My daughter has a Audi TT petrol turbo which I used from time to time when she's working away and it more economical than my SD4 auto by miles. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

if you are concerned about running costs I wouldn't consider a Landrover.

Well my Yeti currently only get 34mpg at the very best. So 36 from a Freelander is better than that!!! |

Sorry, but you say you're not overly concerned about fuel costs especially as your mileage is low, so why then ask if you'll achieve 500 out of the tank? Not a chance reaching that figure, unless it's all downhill motoring with your foot off the pedal. Nearer 350 and that'll be on a good day. Perhaps go on to say Autocar and read reviews, check out fuel tank capacity, mpg etc. If you're mileage is low, can you justify buying this sort of vehicle, there's plenty of more economical SUVs out there nowadays Last edited by Sidthecat on 5th May 2018 6:42 pm. Very true. I suppose I just like the FL2 a lot. I find more of the current SUVs a bit bland |

Unlikely to have DPF on a 59 plate Freelander 2 only became standard in UK from 11 Model Year and in my experience it doesn't cause a problem even with lots of short and the occasional longer journey. |

You can get 550 miles from a tank with a mix of stop start and motorway driving. 2012 manual model with dpf. I think that an automatic will get a bit less than that however. I regularly get 44 to the gallon which drops to around 38 during the colder months. Worst has been 29 but that was while towing over 300 miles or so. I think for its size and what it can do/what I use it for it is very economical to run! |

If you are concerned about running costs & you are looking at cars with 107k on the clock I would forget about any prestigious car as you are going to get expensive bills. As for DPF all diesel cars 2010+ will have one fitted, fuel manuals do 36mpg autos 28mpg Last edited by Jack frost on 5th May 2018 8:19 pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I get about 526 miles per tank when most of my driving is commuting 20 miles there and 20 back on the motorway |

Regarding fuel its entirely up to driving style and conditions, also sd4 or td4, auto or manual. Like everyone else says 35 is about average, but be prepared for worse in certain conditions. Keep on top of the maintenance and I honestly dont think they are expensive to look after. One thing I will say is the smiles per mile is bloody high so be prepared to enjoy your drive to work, Also, take it off road even if its only a muddy lane, they are amazing vehicles and deserve to show off what they can do, |

35mpg would be fine. I'd be happy spending less on a car and then spending a bit on whatever work is needed. But I am thinking realistically, I know it will need maintenance work done being an older car. I want something reliable and enjoyable to drive, I really dislike my DSG Yeti. |
