There is no need for double flush.
After you drop the oil from the sump and fill it with the same quantity of fresh oil, for the oil trapped inside the converter, you can disconnect the automatic box oil radiator output hose and with the engine running, the box will expunge the old oil whilst you keep feed fresh oil through the top filler plug with the approximately same rate as oil exits. Don't worry if you can't feed it with exactly the same rate as exiting, because the box has 7 liters and -1 liter is not the end of the world. In fact this is the way the oil changing machines does it.
When the oil that's exiting has the same colour as the fresh oil, then you stop, reconnect the hose, and fill it to the level.

so it perfectly acceptable not change the filter when changing the oil? I mean, it's not an absolute must when changing oil?

The filter, as said before, it's quite difficult to reach.
Common good practice says changing the filter must be done together with the oil...
But the filter has quite a big surface and therefore, I for one, I change the oil each 60.000 km and the filter each 120.000 km.

I think the autobox oil spec for later models must have changed. Just check in your manual which autobox oil you need. My 2014 SD4 requires Nippon AW-1, T-WS (JWS3324) spec. Jules

No way - its way too good for the current Haynes manuals.

You can download load a free FL2 workshop manual (2006-2010) in a single pdf from here

At what mileage do freel2 members suggest changing the autobox oil on a car that does light towing (single axle unbraked Ifor Williams trailer)and only occasional gentle off roading ?

Our SD4 has done 32K miles. I was thinking of changing the Haldex oil soon as the UK has warmed up again. Jules

Not based on anything scientific.................just my opinion

I am halving the LR advised intervals for ATF, Rear Diff fluid and Transfer Box Fluid, so 5 years or 75k miles

Thirding the LR advised interval for Haldex Service, so 3 -4 years or 50k miles

Hi Alex/Jules, I must say I am surprized at the inf and help one can get from the members- thank you.
my FL2 has done 120 000km and I am going to change the autobox oil tomorrow, but I have another question. I tried to find the exact spec for the oil, but cannot find it anywhere, all the dealer can tell you is AW1. In south Africa the dealers charge you
800 Rand per liter (approx 50GBP) which is a joke.eventually I found out that the AW1 is an American spec, and then I found
an oil from Total - fluidmatic MV LV- among all the other specs of this oil there is a GM AW1 which sounds american to me. There is also another spec that says landrover P/N TYK 500050 and LR 0022460. The dealer looked up the part number LR022460 and that meant Freelander 2 SD4 auto Transmission oil. But you will notice there is one zero less in the number.
That looked close enough for me and I bought 9 liters of this oil at 130 Rand per liter. Does this sound like the right oil to you?
I just want to be sure I dont mess up the gearbox. The dealer also told me They use Dexron6 just to flush the boxes.
