What Price to Pay if you where buying

As have mentioned im after a FL2 Auto NO DPF so probably before 2010

Spec wise GS will suffice, but anything above be fine. Razz

Not desperate to buy one as have current use of vehicle, But what would a fair good price be for a well looked after FL2

prices seem all over the shop, wanting to buy privately but Traders seem same price, is it more that private sellers think their vehicle is worth alot more, just dont want to be paying over the odds.

Do certain colours attract a premium

Hi, I think that it’s simply a case of when cars are pushing 10 years old you are not buying against a book value , you are buying what the market is willing to pay . The Freelander 2 IMHO is enjoying fairly high residuals as it has a fairly unique place in the market . The overall design wasn’t tweaked too much over the production life , and it has a quite classical LandRover look that many find more appealing than the similar aged alternatives . It’s also a very capable vehicle for those that need it and you will see lots around the Dales, the Pennines etc in places where function beats fashion . I think there are also a few owners disappointed with the trade in values they were offered v what dealers are trying to sell these cars for . I’ve just dropped our car in for service today and the Indy has several excellent FL2 for sale at what I quite frankly describe as obscene prices , but hey , he is selling them no problem .

In real life these cars are not cheap to run if you have the servicing done correctly , so when you are looking the quality of the service history should in line with the price. Then you have the choice at similar prices of high spec high mileage cars v low spec low mileage cars . I agree it’s a bit of a minefield all I would say if the car has not been main dealer and independent Land Rover specialist serviced , don’t touch it .

I’d also bargain very hard with the private seller in this day and age - £320 tax, £350 big service , 28 mpg , euro 4 diesels that need a major cam belt job at 10 years ... there is a difference between asking a lot for them and selling for cash Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

i would feel bad telling a private owner more realistically what there car is worth, not a tyre kicker but they need to get in real world.

Just dont want to buy off a dealer, because i know they would of offered peanuts, plus warranty probably be useless but at same price dont want to pay over the odds privately.

Ive seen some 08 and they asking 10k,

Inneedofhelp, LR dealership does give you the 2 years approved warranty mind. so also take that into consideration.

Bob,that 7year cam belt/water pump change is now set in stone for me Thumbs Up suppose not only playing safe with engine but spreading the cost also.
I'm going to look what is actually in 10 year service and try and spread the jobs out over three years. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I think thats the sensible way to do that service, I certainly intend replacing all the oils at a much shorter interval than 10 years or 150K miles, likewise the timing belt and water pump.
I'll do the majority of it myself also which will save £££ on the labour Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

What do you think an 08 is worth ? The issue is there are some cars out there at 10 years old that are mint , low mileage serviced regardless of cost and would serve you well over the next 5 years , then there are some real dogs that are money pits . Just as a benchmark I took our car into the Indy for a service and a few jobs today , they had 3 clean model year 10/ 11 models at around £13,500 . A month or two back they had an 09 for £12,000 ! Would I buy one at that price ? Not a chance Rolling with laughter when I bought our 09 GS auto from a main dealer in 2011 I paid £16,500 with 33k miles on the clock . However it does show how sellers may value their cars proportionately to ones on specialists forecourts.

Never be afraid to offer what you think a car is worth , all the buyer can do is a) say no , b) counter offer . At the end of the day they are mainly selling the car privately as they want a few quid more than the part ex they have been offerered, and if that’s the case an offer from you might be win win . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
