Coding? Repairs and stuff

Hi folks, this may have been covered before but I'll stick it in anyway. I bought a 2012 xs with I believe a meridian infotainment system. The meridian kit wouldn't run the radio or satnav. It has been diagnosed as an amplifier fault by Stratstone. The dealer who supplied the car had a firm send the original away somewhere to be repaired. It came back after a long time and was refitted but apparently doesn't work still. A replacement has been obtained, but I have a couple of questions. 1, Would the original, after repair, need recoding or whatever to work? 2, If it needs recoding, must it be done by a main dealer? 3. Further to the second question, if the original only requires recoding, how big a job is that? Dave

Hi, I am grievously disappointed that nobody seems to give a monkeys, therefore I shall monitor the site for other interesting subjects but will take no further active part. Thanks a lot for the lack of interest

Personally its the first time of seeing but I was on a ski trip when you posted it.

Maybe no one knows the answer fully but I understand radio units are not coded.

There is no compulsion for anyone to dig in and if you regularly do some complain your a key board junkie and then complain when the chips are down your not playing the game by not popping up. Not one of the old school from 2007 and a no win situation. Thud Banging Head Or as they say in Yorkshire Fekem. Yawn FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So what's your mentality Jock! I simply asked a simple question, does anyone know the answer to a SIMPLE question that I didn't know the answer to, and you would think that I had asked who knew the date of the end of the world Thanks Folks

Thanks for that, I know that they do not have codes as such, but everything else on the damned thing seems to argue with canbus or something so I thought to ask about the need for making everything talk to each other. I am sorry if my annoyance with this query has caused offence. Dave

It depends what was faulty with the original unit. A new unit would need to be fitted to the car and configured as a new unit. If it wasn’t it would not work.

Thank you very much for that answer and information.......I don't want to rake up the past, but if someone had been able to tell me that earlier, much 'difficulty' might not have occurred. Could you also tell me whether a Lynx diagnostic tool could be used for the set-up? I am told that the firm doing the repair/replace job has sent the second amp away for repair, it may just be the case that the first repair was good, but the installation was at fault, i.e. he doesn't know what cantankerous sods Freelanders are. Dave

No idea if a lynx could do it. Any time you fit “repaired” electronics you can get issues.

Firstly, This is the first time I have seen this post and I click on New Posts daily.
Secondly,I could give you an answer but as I do not have a clue it would be A.pointless. B.dangerous. or C. spot on but that would be a worlds first in lucky guesses.

Cool Chill out man if someone knows they will help I for one know first hand that it can get very frustrating with dealers but don't vent your spleen on here Thumbs Up If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Are you sure your supplying dealer actually sent it away to be repaired ?
Ask the supplying dealer where they sent your amp. Contact that repairer, ask what was wrong with it and how they mended it. Jules
