May I suggest that you check to see if you have front "spats" fitted as these are designed to stop exactly what you are experiencing, water being thrown up onto the screen when the front tyres meet a large body of water.

Not a good idea as water can enter the air filter quite easily on these. It could even destroy an engine if enough got in but some and recent reports on here of air filter being destroyed and then causing running problems as the bits of wet filter gum up the air intake side of the engine. I put the larger version of the spats on my 07 fl2. It didn’t really make any difference to the amount of water that ended up on the windscreen. Took them off again to fit the alloy sump guard as they don’t fit together. The amount of water on the windscreen is down to a combination of depth and speed along with the huge gap between the tyre and wheel arch. |

have you got rain sensor wipers?because mine has and when I go through puddles the wipers are almost instant as the water hits the screen. |

If you see a puddle coming - switch on the wipers first!

Now obviously this is not the kind of puddle I was referring to as clearly I'm going slow enough to avoid the water splashing up onto my windscreen, but it might explain why I come across many puddles - you can't avoid them where I live atm!

If the water is coming up the near side wing in a similar manner I’d be worried about water entering the air inlet which is the triangular grill with the indicator repeater in it. The duct runs inside the wing to the air filter box which does have a drain, but there have been stories of wet collapsed paper air filters clogging the system. Perhaps you need to slow down a bit. |
