A total of 17 fields needed the be changed to get the RSE system working fully. Previously I had some features working but now have DAB, AUX, DVD and TV now available from the source list. So now everything is working how it should be which has been no easy task. Big thank you to Cambo for all his help in getting this mamouth CCF task completed. Lots of late night emails and Whatapping went into decifering this jigsaw.







The screens are fully operational now with Land Rover startup screen same as front touchscreen and “Watch” or “listen” main screen.











Now the system is fully operational had a chance to test my LVDS repair which I can report was a complete failure



So now I need to come up with a repair that maintains the integrity of the digital signal and being compact enough to pass through the headrest posts. Bit more work to be done before I can mount the headrest screens and complete this project. MY15

Have ordered a couple of HSD Fakra’s Male/female which should get me out of trouble with the LVDS/GVIF cables by maintaining the shield at the joint for the digital signaling.



The connector diameter are such that they will pass through the headrest post in the seat with ease. That’s the plan just have to wait for them to arrive and get them fitted as they require specialised crimping tool.
Will be able to mount the headrest screens and conclude this retrofit. MY15

Still waiting on the HSD Fakra’s but something I forgot to mention which was also as successful as my LVDS repair was the remote for the rear passengers. After a bit more research realising I had the wrong remote and the one I had was for NGI models.
An unexpected surprise on delivery realising the earlier remotes are backlit and the newer models are not! Some bean counter at JLR must be really happy with himself saving some money designing out this really useful feature of the newer remotes
The back lighting is a really nice touch and I’m afraid this says a lot for what JLR have been doing with their models over the last 5 years trying to save everywhere they can whilst charging extra for every little feature/option and goes further than just cosmetically.

What's the part number for the correct remote Stu?

My understanding was that the NGI remotes have the extra full width button below the d-pad.

The crimping tool isn't that specialist, they can be picked up for £30, my problem is finding good quality cable. I may just have to try and persuade Cambo

EPLA-19g291-BB or Lr066435 but I think there are a couple of variants.

So close but so far



HSD Fakra’s arrived and straight away noticed a problem. These HSD Crimp Fakra’s are not the same as the JLR ones in that there is normally a clip which releases the plug from the cable and these ones don’t have this. This is important as I need to release the plug from the cable to be able to feed it through the seat post. Luckily I could release the Male Crimp but then also noticed that the cable end can fit into the plug 4 different ways which is not good as I need to put the plug back together whilst in the seat and won’t be able to see it



Solution is I have now ordered 2 more Male crimps which release and also have a chamfered or keyed cable mount which means the plug can only go back one way.

Few further developments whilst waiting for the Fakra’s to arrive.....
Have tested the new remote and that works perfectly



Whilst testing the remote tried my headphones which didn’t work🤔
After a bit more investigation and establishing the screens are MY14 and are for “Whitefire” headphones which explains why my headphones weren’t working as I thought they may be IR.



So now purchasing one of these “Whitefire” transmitters which plugs directly into the AAM. Luckily I have one of these LVDS leads which plugs the “Whitefire” transmitter into the AAM

Long story short, Fakra’s arrived, went off to Fakra cable repair man who had just moved premises, no phones, employee had just broken leg at workplace and said “don’t expect you job anytime soon” just leave it” me thinking will see it when hell freezes over.
Plan B
Wait for it......Caravan Repair Guy says I’d just solder them and explains a super secret way to do this (as my first attempt was a monumental, complete failure, me thinking, “Yeah, right, what would a caravan guy know, pffff! (Que caravan people on here☺️)
