Car manufacturers have been doing this for decades! I’d taken the description of “Leather seat facings” to mean it being limited to what you actually sit on for years.

I did look at a Mercedes E Class before buying my first FL2 and refreshing was a version with “artificial leather”, which the salesman assured me was indistinguishable from the real thing. It was obviously plastic from the first touch!

So, once again, consumer protection comes the protection of the gullible, but then he went and spoiled it by buying a Golf saloon. Sorry, “Audi”

I wonder if I can get a refund on my Velar? It says its a Range Rover but actually an F-Pace underneath. Nowhere in the brochure does it state that it’s a Jaguar. Anybody know a good lawyer Rolling Eyes 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

And much of what is "leather" is actually a cheap leather coated in a coloured plastic skin. Audi and BMW do this and you have to go for an expensive "nappa" etc leather option is you want the proper stuff.

My BMW had the standard cheap leather on facing surfaces - it looked OK but to touch it was completely different to the real stuff - it didnt wear well either and couldnt be "restored" with leather cleaning products. Jules

All this isn't news to me, I've know all along that the seats in my D3, D4 & FL2 were all "leather faced" and therefore expect all other vehicle's "leather interiors" to be the same.

It's why you don't get that long lasting "smell of leather" in today's cars compared to cars from a few decades ago.

But maybe manufacturers should come clean for the vulnerable by declaring "Real Imitation Leather"

Chicken is good to eat but the skin doesn't make good seats as it tears. Best to roast your chicken until the skin is crisp and delicious to eat.

Mercedes ‘Artico’ formerly ‘MBTex’ is far superior to leather imho, it doesn’t crack or wrinkle, looks good after many years and if you want the leather smell, clean the stuff with Gliptone liquid leather.
The guy who bought the car should have done his homework, it is well known that many vehicles have a mix of real and synthetic leather, the Freelander being an example.

First I recall of having artificial leather was back in 2003. Whilst home from school I remember browsing a Discovery 2 paperback broucher. It’s clearly stated leather seat facings. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Just be grateful that at least we have our hands on a horse's bum every time we use the car!

It's the same leather as my watch strap which forms a ring around my wrist!

I have pulled about a dozen hairs out of the steering wheel. Some may have noticed white specks on the wheel. Probably off an old nag from the knackery! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I have a Peugeot RCZ which has a full Nappa leather interior including a beautifully stitched dash. The FL2 does not come close for finish, but then there are very many fewer RCZs about. That said, as I am currently finding out bloody great summer tyres and endless torque aren't ideal on snow and ice. Very frightening when you see the cost of body repairs for these!! Dave

The results showed that while one sample from the middle of the seat was genuine ‘bovine’ leather, the other, from the side of the seat, was polyurethane, backed by layers of woven textile and ‘interlining’.

.............and he needed to send it away to be tested to find this out ?? So was this guy blind, or just a bit thick ?? And who were the muppets testing it ? I smell another BS Daily Mail story.
