Muck on rear.... do mudflaps help?

My secondhand GS came with front flaps fitted, but none on the rear.

The back gets very dirty with spray off the road Big Cry - I think its worse than on our old Kia Sportage which had flaps on all 4 wheels, although the rear still got pretty grubby on that.

Has anyone fitted / removed flaps on the rear and therefore give a definitive statement on whether they help (or not)? If no I'll just have to keep washing the car more often.

I fitted all 4 over christmas. The fronts make a reasonable difference, the rears less so in the driving I have done since. I would say I'm washing the rear window about 75% of what I was.

The rear ones are easy peasy to DIY fit though Thumbs Up . The fronts are a bit of a pain in the bum in this cold weather as you have to mess about cutting plastic bits Confused

Just noticed your car is black..So I think you'll still be washing it as often anyway, black looks mucky all too quickly, been there and decided never to have a black car again Whistle

Hey swmbo is never wrong!! Black is the colour she chose Bow down and the colour I'll wash Big Cry and wash Big Cry and wash - as often as necessary. Thumbs Up

I'm not sure if rear flaps are worth only a 25% reduction in wash frequency, though! I'll find out how much my stealer wants for them when we go in for the PTC heater refit next Tuesday (the one the salesman said only HSEs had Rolling Eyes).

The stealer salesman did warn us that black needed washing more often, to be fair. I still love looking at it - clean or dirty!

Black is a hopeless colour to keep clean everybody will accept that, but when it is clean it looks good, really good, no fantastic (for 5 minutes), that is why I and many Stornoway FL2 owners have chosen the best colour for our drives Thumbs Up - you can keep your diry black ones to yourself Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I was thinking about this, and stumbled across this idea on the disco3 forum.

A few people have fitted home made mudflaps, made using series and defenders mud flaps.

Not a bad idea, I wonder if they'd work to stop the spray on the back window

They would be practical, but they would look pants on an FL2. I find that the rear mudflaps do help alot, not that ours gets very dirty!! But it does look more complete when all four are fitted. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I don't think they help that much, the back of the car still gets very dirty in this weather. ______________________

Mudflaps -particularely on the rear - do indeed prevent spraying of the rear of the Freely 2 considerably - but not for 100%. But spraying is reduced to a minimum. One more point: stone chips on the paint of the back door/rear bumper are prevented as a side impact. I would (and do) use the mud flaps especially designed to fit the Freely 2. I even like the looks.

I think that the rear mud flaps will do and the front ones are luxury (and difficult to fix). The rear mudflaps cost in Germany EUR 33,00 incl taxes and the fitting is done within 7 minutes by anyone ( 2 srews and one clip).

A day after taking delivery of my FL2 I went to Shrewsbury and on the way encountered a 15 minute thunder storm. When I arrived I went to open the boot and the back was caked in dirt - I was gutted!!!! Big Cry Big Cry My shiney new FL2 looked like its was 12 months old!!! Got some funny looks off the neighbours when I got home when they saw me washing a 1 day old car!! Shocked Think its common with all 4x4's really as its all to do with the near vertical back end Idea Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
